Downloads - PENTAX Europe Imaging Systems

Has anyone tried it?

Here is the Readme.txt

===========================================================================
PENTAX K-r Firmware Updating to Version 1.10
===========================================================================

* Firmware is the software that runs inside digital cameras.

Updatable models
K-r digital SLR cameras running Firmware Ver. 1.00/1.01.

How to check version
Turn the power on while pressing the MENU button.
The Firmware version is displayed for about 5 seconds at the center
of the LCD monitor.
Perform the above operation without inserting the SD/SDHC card
containing Firmware in the camera.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * [Caution] * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Be sure to use fully charged battery (D-LI109)
If the camera turns off during updating due to lack of battery power, the
camera will become inoperable. If this happens, a charge will be made for
repairs even if within the warranty period.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Updating Procedure

1. Provide a formated SD/SDHC memory card for the update software.
The downloaded file is self-extracting.
The following files are extracted.

readme.txt : this document
fwdc208b.bin : Firmware

Copy the above Firmware file [fwdc208b.bin] to the root directory in
the SD/SDHC card.
If your computer does not have a card slot, you can copy the firmware
update file by inserting the SD/SDHC card into your camera and then
connecting the camera directly to your computer.

2. Insert the D-LI109 battery into the camera and confirm the battery is full
by battery level indicator then turn the camera off.

3. Insert the update SD/SDHC card (prepared in step 1) into the camera
and close card cover.

4. Turn the camera power on while pressing the MENU button.

5. "NOW LOADING" appears in the LCD monitor, and will change to the
"PROGRAM UPDATE". At the bottom of the LCD monitor,

CURRENT VERSION 1.00/1.01
UPDATE VERSION 1.10

will be displayed.

6. Press the four-way controller to select "YES" and press the "OK" button.

7. "UPDATING" appears on the LCD monitor and updating starts.
Please do not under any circumstances switch off the power before the
update is completed.
It will take approximately 90~150 seconds to complete update.

8. When update is completed, the "COMPLETE" will be displayed at the left
bottom of the LCD monitor, then turn the camera off.

9. Remove the update SD/SDHC card from the camera.

10. To check the Firmware version in your camera, turn the camera on while
pressing the MENU button.
Check that the version displayed in the LCD monitor is "Ver.1.10"
The camera automatically starts up after about 5 seconds.

(Caution)
When updating is finished, the update SD/SDHC card still contains the
Firmware file.
If you want to use this card to take pictures, delete the Firmware file
first.

Wow, any idea where we can see the changelog? Not to get anyone's hopes up, but this could be exciting.

I think it a real thing. At least for k5 it is. But it seems more a GPS add feature than something else.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it is the support for the O-GPS1:
New Accessory: O-GPS1 - Pentax News - PentaxForums.com

It came out for the K-5 also.

...but, here's to hoping that they were able to sneak a little something extra in there for the K-r owners!

I've applied it don't see anything radical yet apart from the gps settings, but it went on ok. I will have to see if there are noticeable differences in time, but as I mostly use MF lenses in Daylight it would be hard for me to comment on the FF issue- as yet it hasn't been a problem for me

It is good to note that K-r is still Hoya's pet child! Even if there is no FF fix this time, it must follow soon.

Two questions about updating;

1.) Does the SD card have to be blank? They never say. I need some of the pics on my card and I only have one, so I am not dying to buy another just for this.

2.) I never uploaded the last one. Do they typically include everything updated in the latest, or do you have to download both to get everything?

1) No. Worked ok here with photos still on card.
2) Should go from 1.0 to 1.10 ok.

1- Nop. You just need the BIN file to be on Root of SD Card

2- Yes. It's a new firmware, so it includes all upgrades and changes.

The nice thing about Pentax firmware updates is that they are cumulative so you can go from 1.00 to 1.02 or 1.10 without installing 1.01.

I have downloaded the update onto an SD card, and have followed the instructions to the letter, but all it does when I turn it on is show that I have version 1.00. Any suggestions?

Just to be clear, did you extract the .bin file on your computer and put that file on the card, or did you put the file that you downloaded on the card?
People have been known to overlook the extraction part.

Hi,

Could someone explain, in easy terms how you get the file from the pc to the camera via the SdHC card?

I've downloaded a 9.6mb file to my desktop, kr_e110w, but the instructions say place this onto the root file of the card?

Any assistance welcome.

Thanks
