Remote for 645 or film SLRs

Does anyone know of

1) a hack to use an electronic remote or cable release with the original 645? or

2) a good solution for a wireless cable release for film cameras such as the 645 with a screw-type shutter cable fitting?

The literature for the 645 indicates that Pentax made a wireless release for the older shutter cables at one time, but I haven't seen one around.

I have not touched 645 since 1997 so this is all from memory (or lack thereof).

You need to get your hands on a plug that goes into the remote and it is simply shorting out the wire to trigger. Keep the circuit closed for continuous shooting.

The wireless remote was expensive, nothing that a simple modification to radio control flash trigger or a sears garage door opener could not do.

Sears Garage door opener might be a little bulky.

Phottix Cleon

I bought a Phottix for my Nikon D200, and spliced a stereo 3.5mm jack into the cord for the Pentax F cable for my P645N and PZ1.

It's a two stage type remote (metering and AF on half-depress) and it works via radio frequency not IR. Range is not tremendous but definitely a useful gadget for self-portraits.
