LOL. Funny.
They sucked at DSLRs.
They do not have a significant MILC marketshare.
And they persue digital MF?
What a bunch of idiots.

Imo, this is BS.
It depends on price. Cheap MF with simple functionality.
Samsung never made DSLR. Samsung had gotten just necessary experience with GX system.
GX10 and GX20 were very good machines made by Pentax with Samsung software.

Samsung has 3 times higher level of capitalization than Sony, for example.
It's not hard to offer MF camera. 34 MP with 36*36 mm sensor and price lower than Sigma SD1 will be good... I think that Samsung could offer such camera for $2500-3000.

Indeed, but Samsung has experience of film SLRs and of medium format too.

Samsung and medium format:

Rollei belonged to Samsung from 1995 to 1999. Samsung bought Rollei in 1995 from Heinrich Mandermann, who also owned Schneider Kreuznach, Beroflex, Praktica and Exakta. Hence the contacts between Samsung et Schneider Kreuznach.

Samsung and film SLRs:

Samsung launched in 1997 a manual focus film SLR, the Samsung Kenox GX-1, known as Samsung SR-4000 outside Korea.

The Samsung Kenox GX-1 / SR-4000 had a specific bayonet mount. There were three lenses alongside it:

- 50mm f/1.4,
- 28-70mm f/3.5-4.5 and
- 70-210 f/4.5-5.6.

These lenses were labelled Samsung in Korea and Schneider Kreuznach for export markets (the 50mm f/1.4 was for instance designated as "Xenon").

The Kenox GX-1 was quite successful in Korea whilst the sales of the SR-4000 were few and it ended its commercial career in discount stores in the United States.

Speaking of Rollei, the prototype of a medium format by Samsung shown above reminds me of the Rolleis SL 2000 F - SL 3003 from the '80s, 24x36 reflex cameras with a cubic body and interchangeable lenses, waist-level and eye-level finders, focusing screens, bulk backs and film backs.

Samsung is not a brand name than make me dream in the world of photography, not at all.
Id they bought Rollei in the 90's, why did they need to colaborate with Pentax for their first DSLR ?

Any cooperation in field of DSLR is useful.
Samsung NX system is rather strong. The line of nowdays and future lenses are outstanding.
Samsung NX is real BRAND name.

Yet nobody buys it.

Samsung went to film SLR. Quit it quickly.
Samsung went to DSLR. They didn't even manufacture any and quit quickly.
They went to mirrorless and can't get marketshare.
They'd go to MF and then what ?

I also wonder where and how much they sell compared to m4/3th and Nex. At least here in The Netherlands it is almost nowhere to buy.

Very popular in Russia. I can see NX cameras even in small electronic markets.
No problem to buy any lens, cases, any cameras.
NX100, NX10, NX11 are in the shops.

To say honest all Samsung lenses are from VERY GOOD to PERFECT level.
NX11 is real cool machine.

We will see NX20 and NX200 very soon.
16/2.4, 20/2.8 and 30/2 pancakes are real art lenses.

85/1.4 and 60/2.8 macro will be the gems.

P.S. I plan to buy NX11/20 + 16/2.4 + 30/2 + 85/1.4 set. Maybe NX200.

Some sales figures would be interesting.

I don't know about "perfect" but I'm waiting for the NX200 myself. And while I have no inkling of how they're selling, they are available in the camera shops here in Toronto as well, certainly in the chains that don't carry Pentax. I do note that Samsung is currently steeply discounting the NX100 (whether to clear stock or gain interest in the model I don't know).
