Great find. A WR superzoom lens was really missing in the line-up. However, for about 450 EUR I would expect it to be SDM ...

We'll see what street prices will be. Anyway, an interesting lens

Hopefully it's not based on Tokina 16.5-135

Over at DPReview one user is pretty confident it isn't:

When you'll see the optical formula you'll understand why I wrote the message above. Those two lenses have nothing in common.

I wonder how much the 18-135WR will cost as a stand-alone.

I suspect it will cost even more if bought separately. Kit lenses are always cheaper together with the camera than separately.

well if it costs 450 EUR in a kit, expect it to be a fair amount more I'd say.

Another post from the same user (although, anyone could have guessed this):

Hi Radu,
do you by chance know how fast the lens is?
1.4-2.0 would be nice and will definitely boost the sales (kidding).
Best,
Andrey.
3.5-5.6.

I have been looking forward to someone making a lens in this range that offers something over the 18-250ish lenses. WR is a nice feature, but I'd like it to be smaller and/or have better IQ. I'm not familiar with the Nikon, but the Canon performs about like an 18-250 and it is bigger to boot. So far I have seen no lens in this range that offers any significant advantage over the longer superzooms.

It could hardly have worse IQ than the Canon...

Click 'flat view' at the top. Then it'll look like most forums.

K-5 + 18-55WR - €1449
K-5 + 18-135WR - €1849

1,399.00 EUR = 1,799.56 USD ! It better be good for that price. The new Nikon D7000 is $1,199 USD.

Here is a reminder of what has been rumoured for the D7000:

100% viewfinder
Dual SD memory card slots
Magnesium-alloy body
16.2MP CMOS sensor (DX)
Expeed 2
1080 HD video @24p | 720 @30p (not sure about those)
20 min video recording (up from 5min on the D90)
Save images from video (similar to the D3s)
AF during video
Stereo mic input for video
6 fps
Virtual horizon (like the D300s)
One touch video and/or live view (similar to the D3100)
Improved ISO range: 100-25600
39 AF points
Wireless flash
Weather proof (like the D300s)
New battery system
Expected price: $1199 for body only

Hey, if that new Nikon is so good, it'll be in our advantage after all. If Hoya made the K-5 so good that they think they can/must charge that much, they'll soon respond to the competition and the price comes down.
