My requests are simple firmware type upgrades inspired by my weekend of shooting in Zion National Park.
I shot a lot of panoramas this weekend and missed my P&S pano mode. It would dump all the files shot with pano mode on in a separate folder. It would also show on the LCD how the files overlapped, but I don't think that's necessary. Sorting the files would help immensely, though.
I'd also like auto exposure bracketed shots to be placed in their own folder. It'd make assembling HDRs easier.
Let me preface this entry by saying that I rarely use anything other than manual mode. While some of the bells and whistles on current dSLRs are useful at times I find myself wishing that my K10 was my MX with a green button (for hyper manual) and a digital sensor.
In my dream wishlist I see:
1) a totally stripped down (titanium frame) body with the bare minimum of controls - shutter speed dial, shutter release, ISO dial and green button - move aperture setting back to the lens where it belongs.
2) minimal power use mode - preferably an all-mechanical mode (if that is in any way possible)
3) a mount that treats both my ancient (but excellent) screw mount lenses and my k-mounts like they were made for this body...
In my reality wishlist I would really like to see Pentax push the colour depth of the sensor to a new level. Over the years we have seen the resolution, in terms of total pixels, grow enormously but the colour depth or bits per pixel per colour (bpp) has hardly changed. I might be wrong but I believe that current sensors do not exceed 10bpp (30bit colour) and many are only 8bpp (24bit colour). Upping this to 16bpp would make a significant difference to the colour resolution, dynamic range and allow for much more precise post-processing. Of course you would have to be shooting RAW and the files would be much bigger...
1. weather sealed DA*macro lens (DA*180/4) and weather sealed flash
2. more accurate autoISO work.
3. new AF system
4. DA135/2.8
5. DA400/5.6
6. auto switch off SR function
7. bigger buffer in low-end cameras
8. 5 fps, 1/8000/1/250 in new pro camera with unlimited jpeg and 25 RAW.
9. two TC - 1.4x and 2.0x.
10. new macro flash
11. small low-end body like *ist DL (or even smaller) in new K2000D to use with pancakes.
12. K2000D kit set with DA40/2.8
13. DA*30 faster than f/2 or f/2.

6) 5fps or more
7) Bigger body
8) Pro model with integrated battery grip
9) 3" LCD with high resolution
10) External Flash with 3sec recharging time & weatherseale
11) quiet shutter :-)
12) more accurate AF (IR lamp included?)
Make the multiple exposure mode accessible in the function menu with all the other drive modes where it belongs. Make the M/C option for wireless flash accessible in function menu under flash modes again where it belongs. Thats it...
the creation of Pentax Australia, and make the prices on par with what they're like overseas
Ditto for Europa - I just got a 50-135mm SDM ..etc, and the Danish price was just under 2000us$. I ended up having a friend bring it home from the US - paid 750us$. Also got me a AF-540FGZ which was about half the danish price.
I'll also second the request to have new firmware for older models. Could I at least have the timed interval shooting from the K20D back ported to my K10D? I was to play with that... If the hardware allow it as so the back/front focus adjustment option...

To all those who wanted upgrades for older models, I wish you luck, I have given up. I posted a thread here some months ago even suggesting how much you would pay for an upgrade. it stopped very quiclky indeed. seems even for a modest fee, no one wanted to show enough interest for pentax to get on board and do a new release for the K10D even wien it was still in production. Now pentax claim it is out of production and not enough people brought problems forward, so they "didn't know" issues really existed.
If you believe that, I have some swamp land in florida I would like to sell
