"swims comfortably in the waters of the Canon 1D mk lll"
Not sure what this means. The new Pentax has the capabilities of this $4000. + camera?
Why do I have my doubts?
I sure hope you're not, uh, slightly exaggerating...
I think Ben was referring to IQ.
From what I have seen, the 1DMkIII is quite close to D300, only a bit better in resolution/high ISO noise (a bit more color noise but with less smoothing).
Edit: Damn! Chris beat me to it!
Hey, Chris, sure looks like some good times are coming our way huh?
I had already made up my mind that I'm putting money into lenses this year, not a new body. I'm very happy with the K10D. That being said, the information in your post is intriguing to say the least and I just may, just may have to rationalize the need for a second dSLR body. I'm hoping you are exaggerating; otherwise, my bank account is in jeopardy.

It will be especially since Ben is playing with a newer firmware than I myself have been able to examine so hearing things from him is a whole new boat then what I've ridden in.

Indeed things are hotting up, I shot with v 0.20 and that was impressive, so things have moved on quite a pace since then! Quieter again as well. Very nice!
Ben, As a current Canon (1DmkII & 5D) & Pentax (K10D) user you have got me on the edge of my seat. I love Pentax glass but have used Canon for most of my professional work because of the speed & responsiveness of their bodies. I have been patiently waiting to get my next camera body, ready for the next 5D or the next KxxD and I am honestly hoping Pentax will deliver on something that motivates me add to my Pentax arsenal.
As you know, I make part of my living as a Pro Photographer and the other part as a Consulting Creative Director. If Pentax wasn't up to the quality I expect, I would use another brand...Period.
I am being published in the most prestigious cutting edge "Trendy Press" and with the K10D..The new K--D is a major step up the ladder in quality and finesse.

How about understating...I am using my eyes. That is subjective. But after using Canon products for years, I feel I can make that statement with some authority.
I'm new in DSLR world and just got K100D last year. I realized that K100D & K10 are kind of slow in auto focusing in low light condition. So how is this new K---D's auto focus speed and accuracy compared to Cn or Nk ?
Thanks in advance.
Very quick AF using the Limited 35mm f2.8 macro I am playing with today.

Hi Richard;
I was in the same room as my girlfriend and there was some street noise, but not excessive and I took an image and asked.."did you hear that?" she said "heard what"..."the shutter"..."No didn't hear a thing"..It freaked me out when I started using it. I think it is as quiet or more so than the Canon 400D...
Oh..and built like a tank. Gorgeous ergonomy as expected a lovely black shutter release button and a ton of stuff that "SCREAMS" Professional DSLR.

Are you using the Live View? I can see why if you are using Live View with the mirror in up position. Just the shutter without the mirror flap would be very quiet indeed. But if you are using the usual optical viewfinder, then Pentax must have upgraded the mirror box in a big way.
