55-300 Size Differences?

Sorry, didn't post this in the best place the first time:

On the Japanese brochure floating around, the size of this lens looks significantly larger than 50-200, and close to the DA* 200 (note the width of the zoom ring). On the K20 catalog, with lens pics at the bottom, the lens looks almost the same size as the 18-55 (or 50-200). Anyone else notice this?

Does it matter that much? It's possible, since the maximum focal length is higher than both other lenses.

Any word on pricing? I'll be interested in seeing how this stacks up against the 70-300mm's

The DA55-300 does look longer to me but not too much.

I would imagine the DA18-55mm is the new kit lens and the DA55-300mm a nice companion to that?

I wonder if the DA18-50mm and DA50-200 will be discontinued? Probably not. Cheap to build and excellent quality.

Well...

If it's bigger, I'll stick with the 50-200, but if it's the same size as the 50-200 (as it looks in the K20 brochure) I'll get one, as it is then smaller than the Tamron/Sigma 70-300s. That's why it matters. Plus, I find it peculiar that they would have two different sizes floating around.

Straight from pentaximaging.com:
50-200
Weight: 9.2 oz.
Size Max Diameter Length: 2.6" x 3.1"

55-300:
Weight (w/o Hood): 15.5 oz. (440g)
Maximum Diameter x Minimum Length: 2.8 x 4.4" (71.0 x 111.5mm)

It looks like the size of the 55-300 is closer to that of the 18-250.

HTH,
Heather
