GX-20 Specs

Samsung GX-20: Digital Photography Review

22-bit A/D Converter
Bracketing: 2 to 9 frames

It's said to again have it's own JPEG processing and menus. And NO color adjustment for the LCD.

Slight differences, and cheaper.

How come Samsung has managed to keep the old (better) 22-bit converter and sell it for a lower price than the 'original', while Pentax downgraded to a 14-bit one? Assuming those specs are not wrong.

Who says that a) this is not a typo; and b) the old 22-bit is better than the new 14-bit ?

It says in this article that the K10D only used 12bits A/D although it was capable of 22 bits. There is a possibility that the GX-20 is similar. The 14bit converter is *not* a downgrade from the K10D.

Because MORE is always better! j/k :]

If analogies from sound hardware are valid, the bigger the resolution, the less chance for interpolation errors to occur. A 22-bit converter is inherently better to a 14-bit one unless there are other impacting issues on integration with the other circuits.

I believe the electric signal is converted to digital at 22-bit, and then "downsampled" for the RAW recording at 12-bit.

I believe this is a typo.
To my knowledge, the 14 bit D/A is on the sensor so it can't use the Nucore 22 bit A/D the K10D were using.
