After Pentax's Osaka presentation, one user posted this. Pentax representative called this 'custom grip.' Only the pentax service guy can install this at the service centre (in Japan?). It would be only available in Japan (although it's not confirmed). Price is not announced.
To mutley // I read it could be replaced back to 'normal grip' at the service cetre.
To wlachan // I guess it is to make holding k10d/k20d more comfortable. What original posting said is Pentax developed this grip because of the criticism that normal grip was not comfortable enough for some users. So the idea is, if you feel uncomfortable holding K10D/K20D, you should get the 'custom grip' at extra cost. ^ ^
The original grip looks significantly smaller. Unless there is a feature in there... doubt it'll mean much to me. I'll be watching the developments nonetheless!

I think it would still be for all intents and purposes a "permanent" modification if you need the Pentax Service Centre to remove the grip for you, and put back the old one. (Again with an additional cost...)
I for one find the K10 grip a bit lacking in depth and my littlest finger have nothing to hold on to since the grip does not have much vertical height.
Looks like a great addition for large handed people. I for one like my K10D as it is. I wouldn't want to make ik any bigger, esp since I constantly use it with the battery grip.
I don't think I will have my K20D upgraded with this, although I think it is a great consideration of Pentax to come up with this...
Looks appealing and it doesn't increase camera size if you have a lens on it but I don't think I would go for it if I couldn't try it first.
Or perhaps I would just to make my camera special.
