New Camera: Pentax K20D GPS Tracker

It is being reported by several Greek sites that Pentax is about to announce a new version of the K20D with built-in GPS. The origin of the rumor seems to be the retailer Salkofot. The "news" has been repeated in the online magazine Photo-Business Weekly and on various websites. Here's one example, translated by Google:

Translated version of http://www.fullhd.gr/index.php/photo/517-pentax-k20d-gps-tracker

This is an interesting rumor, but I have no idea if it is true.

Thanks for posting this link. That's great news if true. I've been trying to come up with a good solution to this and haven't found anything I'm real comfortable with. let's hope it works with RAW files.

Maybe this is the K20d Super that has popped up by accident in sales ads - the name at least. It would be a nice feature as long as they don't raise the price by more than 200USD.

And I just got my K20D shipped today.

I wouldn't be willing to pay $200 for this feature, but perhaps there will be other improvements as well.

If there is in fact a new camera, that could help explain why the K20D has been so heavily discounted. At its current price the K20D is a phenomenal deal.

If I can't remember where I took my photo's by looking at them I need to be shot.
Next they will put a TV tuner in so we can watch TV will waiting for our next shot.

I take my GPS around with me w/track log turned on sometimes when I am in an unfamiliar area or really want to pin point where the photo was taken. One situation in particular was when my dad and I went to West Virginia to take pictures of places he grew up, a few houses he lived in, an area of the Holly River that he use to swim in, etc... The GPS was invaluable there.

There's a GPS for Nikons that goes on the flash mount. Its not really cheap. I think that's a pretty silly feature for a camera since it'll drive cost/price up and most people shooting with a DSLR won't care... The few who do could have as add-on or simply carry a GPS along and check the timestamps..

It's a nice feature to have if you're either a:

1) Wild life photographer
2) Archeologist willing to deal with variances of about 10 feet or so
3) Uber geek who wants to know the coordinates of where the photo was taken
4) Peeping tom wanting to always know where the good spots are

I doubt this is the only feature added to a new incarnation of the camera. As one more feature in a list of improvements, I'd say it's worth it.

Sorry people

I am holding out for a camera that will just take pictures - I don't need
1. GPS
2. Video
3. Mobile phone
4. Live view
5. Your choice

I won't refuse some extra, if it helps me to leave some other devices (GPS, mobile phone, handheld computer, agenda, remote keys) at home. I am already used to pack up tones of lenses, filters and other stuff, so I'll be glad to get lighter.

If they put the improved low-light AF algorithms from the K-m into this K20D GPS, I'll probably buy it.
