Pentax and inventions in digital era. Unique and new.

WHO was the first -
In-camera stabilization - Minolta
Contrast AF and LV in DSRL - Olympus and then Nikon, Canon, Sony
AF adjustment - Canon
Video in DSLR - Canon and Nikon
The smallest DSLR - Olympus
Antidust (the most effective) - Olympus
In-camera RAW convertor - Olympus
The high dust and weather resist of DSLR and of lenses - Olympus
Fine AF adjustment (for zooms too) - Olympus

What can Pentax offer new in digital era?
Sv and Tav?

What else? :ugh:

Pentax could do a lot worse than shadow Oly in the APS-C market.

Without xD of course. That was just plain silly.

All those unique or new seem having nothing to do with taking quality pictures and market share.

This is not about pictures, man -- it's about cameras!

1. Who was the first at ____ doesn't mean much in technology, or anything else for that matter. Who is doing it correctly is what matters. I like in-body SR over lens IS. It gives me the option to have any K mount lens ever made to have stabilization.

2. Contrast AF and LV ... I prefer the good old OVF. The G1 is good but, its just not there yet.

3. Video in DSLR ... not a priority in my books.

4. The smallest DSLR ... 'small' gets to a point of being too small. For eg; the G1 is too small, imho, the grip is not tall enough.

5. Antidust (the most effective) ... I have found Pentax, Panasonic, Canon to be effective enough that dust spots are not an issue.

6. So far Pentax has 2 bodies (K200D and K20D) that are weather sealed also, a few DA* lenses.

7. Fine AF adjustment (for zooms too) ... the K20D has this.

What can Pentax offer new in digital era you say? A whole history of excellent lenses and the bodies to use them.

Won't matter to most consumers who invented what first. Better QC, better AF and better P-TTL flash then those who purchased Pentax would stay. Nothing is worse than having something that failed on you after spending the dollars, expensive or not. Time to wake up Pentax.

Pentax might have not invented any of the latest bells and whistles....

But they brought us the fine Pentax Limiteds (FA and DA).

Pentax is an optical company first and then a camera company.

Nothing wrong with being a latecomer in markets. It's a perfectly viable business strategy.

There was the times when Pentax was photo-engineering company, first of all...
The most what we can see in Japanese cameras now are inventions of Pentax and Minolta in period of 1950-1980.

I see now the technological backlog of Pentax.

new DA*55 SDM is slower than old FA43.

I am surprised as the FA43/1.9 is known for slow AF. Have Pentax gone insane?

One of only 2 manufacturers that can mount Pentax lenses.
What more would you want?

You seems to forget that Pentax is a small company with limited R&D resources.

Don't want to sound as a fanboy (because I am not) but since you complain about slow autofocus let me ask you a question...

Which other company offers exclusive, autofocus, fast prime lenses like the FA Limiteds?
There is no a single company to make an all metal, work of art, autofocus lens to match the FA Limiteds.
Yes there are all metal primes from Zeiss and Voigtlander (Cosina) but they are manual focus only.

Tell me which other company has beatufully made, all metal, miniature, lenses to match the DA Limiteds?
You know the answer is..... ....No one else.

Pentax is a niche company and it should be appreciated for what it is. If you need bells and whistles you know where to look.

Cameras come and go, but lenses stay forever (at least with Pentax backward compatibility).

You're wrong, sir William. It is more than 2.

1. Pentax/Samsung natively.
2. Olympus/Panasonic via adapters. (2x 'crop factor')
3. Canon (even with full frame capability)

So, one can say, it is at least 5 manufacturers that can mount Pentax lenses...

Pleasure to meet you, again, sir .

Could anyone (and you too) please remind me what and when was the last new thing introduced by Leica for its M-series of range finder cameras? Does it in any way impact the way Leica is perceived by today's population?

I maintain that Pentax offered a series of DA limited lenses that has no immediate parallel among any of modern camera makers. This is what Pentax does the best - the glass. For all I care, everything else may be made by Samsung and I'd be glad to use this gear as long as satisfies my photography needs. But then again, if it ceases to do so, I shall immediately proceed to stopping being Pentax customer.

First full-frame DSLR - Contax (N Digital)
First medium format digital back - Leaf Systems Inc. (DCB)
DSLR that can record in infrared and ultraviolet - Fujifilm (FinePix IS Pro)
...
First cities: Sumer.

What's your point? I still prefer Pepsi to Coca Cola.
