It would have been a punch in the face to those who laughed if they had introduced it two years ago.
Now it's just kind of anticlimactic.
And yet I predict this forum and dpreview will be all a-twitter with people posting thoughts, talking about and lusting after this lens after shots start coming in after the 4/25-4/26 and 5/1 weekends.
It will be sold out everywhere, etc, etc...
In the end, it's probably going to be a pretty great lens, IQ-wise.
+2, after so long waiting for this lens it just feels non exciting now, but if it performs ( and it better blow the canon 70-200 F4 away and the sigma 100-300 F4 ) that might change things.
It's axiomatic that the delay was of epic proportions yet the final proof will be in the glass itself. If this lens is less than stellar then Pentax should be *double ashamed*. But if it is exceptional on all aspects they should be commended at least for refusing to put a dud on the market only to get it over with. I had briefly the DA*200 and optically I found it a magnificent performer. It was pretty quick to focus too, at least as long as it did that of course.

Sorry, nobody will ever blow the Canon 70-200/4L away, that lens is perfection. If the 60-250 is even close to it, Pentax users should be satisfied.
I hope it's an awesome lens considering the delays it went through! Now if only Pentax makes an awesome DA* UWA zoom, considering it's an outdoor-oriented brand (perfect for landscapes).
If it's near/as good as the Canon 70-200/4 and drops down below it's intro price...I'd consider it. "Consider" meaning "must be competitive in both IQ, build quality, and price."
It just seems like Pentax is kinda spinning its wheels at the moment. I'm no doomsday person. At the same time, this lens is supposed to compete directly with the f/4L while being priced "lots" above it Although...the Pentax lens is both wider and longer.

How it is supposed to 'compete' with a lens which isn't even available for K mount.
