It is AF-assist lamp. Just like the one in X70.
You will see...In 2 days.

So how many frames per second can we expect then?

X70's AF lamp is different, like the nikons. Pentax's small sensor cams are outsourced.

It depends - some modern displays keep one halframe in a buffer and display two of them simultaneously at 30fps making it 1080p technically...

Ugh... 1080i again does not need to be 60fps...

1080i can be used at 30fps, actually 29.97 which is perfect but again it doesn't have to be 50 or 60 fps. What you guys are misreading is Hz and FPS. 1080i as well as MOST video is recorded at 50-60Hz so it illuminates the screen without showing the flaws or interlacing which shows the video display at every other line. Means HD quality but a smaller bandwidth. With progressive you show every line from top to bottom which takes more data bandwidth and is still recorded at 50-60Hz.

Where did I write anything like that? I was talking about half-frames...

That's a great explanation of echo cancellation in a telecommunications system or perhaps of a digital frequency filter. But .....

In my hands, at any rate, the tremor is quite irregular and therefore not necessarily predictable on a millisecond basis. My hands go back and forth but not evenly like a pendulum.

Pentax may still be using the Invensense IDG-300 for this purpose.
Ok, I gave a simplistic description (which is only correct for periodic shake) to say something about the "loose the brakes" idea for SR ...

A more appropriate description would have been to compare the situation to that of noise cancellation where the phase is actually inverted (note that noise is irregular, too). Works only above a given frequency. Below this frequency (i.e., for frequencies of shake where only a few or less than one oscillation occur) you would counter-move in real time w/o waiting.

But this is no problem because at those low frequencies, the latency of the entire SR system can be ignored. The tricky part is how to compensate for those higher frequencies of shake ... There is a chance that Pentax doesn't treat those higher frequencies at all (Human tremor is at frequencies between 4 Hz and 15 Hz). If so, then you are perfectly right and the system doesn't "anticipate" anything (no noise cancellation at all). Then however, the system would perform poorly for short shutter time at long focal lengths. Maybe, it does...

Pentax never published their exact algorithm but it was noted that it works best for exposure times of 1/15s. They don't use the IDG-300; but two similiar (smaller) chips, one per axis.

Will the new focusing screen/viewfinder still use etching for displaying AF points? Or will it be liquid crystal like the Nikons?

I hope it'll be liquid crystal, it's really nice to be able to choose your display like whether or not to display a grid. Also nice to be able to see a clear screen until you half-press and see which AF points are active.

How is the refresh rate of the display device relevant when we're talking about digital video? Every frame is stored once, and that's it. The video stream knows nothing about refresh rate.

Folks, could we read any replies a post has before we leave a reply ourselves? Several of the posts between the one you replied to and your own pointed out that the flash pictured is indeed a doctored photo of the K-m's flash. It's fake.
