Official BASH the K7 thread

Not that I am going to be part of the bashing but may as well get all the naysayers a place to start, especially since it has already started.

Is this really necessary?

Magnesium is poisonous! What were Hoya thinking?!?!?!

And no round sensor?! This is Pentax' six month of last life. I hear canon AF is faster too.

I will be the first!

I have two things to complain.

  1. I am really really pissed off by the absence of bracketing button!
  2. Batteries are not compatible with K10D/K20D batteries.

This is not a complaint yet, but I am afraid that price will be very steep, some knowledgable people suggest that it will cost more than Nikon D300.

Otherwise it's a very nice camera, although I was expecting more. Some people (especially ogl) were praising camera so much that I started to expect much more that K-7 appeared to be.

Get over it.
Yes the K7 is going to be Pentax's next great camera but it is NOT for everyone. Not everyone is going to want to or need to upgrade from what they have. Not everyone needs/wants video, 1/8000 sec, 5fps....but some do. For those who needs it, they will buy it. The official specs are still up in the air and we still don't know how the IQ will be like. I am not saying the IQ is going to be bad, just saying is it worth the extra money for the average shooter to upgrade.

How can I bash vapor and rumors? I will pass until the actual announcement date and the publication of features and spec.

I can't trash a camera I've never held or seen specs for. But I can wonder about its size, button placement, and whether or not I want to pay for certain features, can't I?

BASH as in Bourne Again Shell?

Otherwise, I may as well use this thread to complain that K-7 threads are created for no particular reason.

I am concerned that the K7 thread was begun without an obvious exit strategy.

I am also becoming firmly convinced that the K7 will cost real cash.

1. No 1/250 flash sync
2. No bracketing button
3. No 14-bit raws

I'll be back later with more complains!

I wish they make the grip smaller. I can grab my gripless FM2n, MZ-M, QL17 better than the K100DS, partly becuase the center of the weight is closer to my palm. Grip is TOTALLY OVERRATED!

This is a NEWS and RUMERs section, I am moving this thread to the 'Everything Else" section rather than closing it.

It was very sad. Last night a neighbor of mine committed suicide. He was found eating the remains of his K-7 body. They tried to reanimate him, but the ambulance team had only Canon lenses, so they sadly had to let him go away.

I'm not bashing the camera based on it's specs. I'm just a bit disappointed that most of the hype was, well, over hyped.
1/180 sync
5.2 FPS JPEG
That is sad. Why is this camera $1500? Is the grip included?

Button placement - the AF button placement looks bad to me. I've already said I'm not that keen on the K20D placement, but this looks worse to me. I like to be able to support MOST of the camera's weight in my right hand, this looks trickier with the K-7, but I'll wait and see. And I use bracketing often enough to be concerned about no dedicated button, but maybe they've thought of some other easy implementation we don't know about yet.

Love the smaller size though - can't have everything!
