Why wouldn't it matter? A grip made out of different material than the camera body would be odd. It isn't a deal breaker of any sort, but I just find it strange, as Canon users had an exciting time when the battery grip for the 10D was magnesium alloy instead of the plastic on the D30.

Nothing we can really do about it now. Pentax takes little steps so let's hope that the next one will be magnesium alloy.

Well that last question put a stop to proceedings!

Function and form are what are ultimately important. The material the grip is made from simply adds to the luxury and possible the qudos (bragging rights).

Some may not like the looks of the K-7 with grip attached, but for me, it makes the camera look "all business"

For me it looks like a picture taking machine, no frills just a "get 'er" done kind of approach.

I, for one like the look.
