K-7 takes pop photo advanced camera of the year

American Photo Editor's Choice 2009: Advanced D-SLRs - Digital Photo Tips and More on PopPhoto.com

K-7 wins advanced DSLR of the year, although it does have to share it with the D90.

No surprise...If you have less than $2500 to spend, I don't think there's a better DSLR...60D may get that nod, but it's vaporware at this point.

14 bit A/D?

It mentioned "14-bit A/D conversion (up from 12 in K20D)", is this right?

I dislike the comparison. The k-7 is an advanced camera. It's rugged, it has lots of features, a great price.

The D90 is an amateur camera; just as the D60/D5000 are entry-level cameras.

do not agree. d60 d5000 and d90 are tottaly different. Starting from grip and finishing on performance

I agree. I think the K7's competition is the Nikon D300.

We couldn’t decide whether the Nikon D90 or Pentax K-7 should win advanced D-SLRr of the year, so we chose them both.

Note: The Nikon is highlighted with all their sales sponsors. This is too obvious for words. Pentax won but couldn't be on top because they would be stepping on the toes of their sponsors.

Is this greedy or spineless? I can't tell which. It's these publications that perpetuate the two-pony-race. Do these people really think that the consumer doesn't want a choice? They could sell Pentax just as easily if not easier, if the consumer were more informed.

So maybe not to be taken seriously, or maybe i'm just writing this bit so this message has enough characters to post.

The K-7 was positioned to be above the D300 in terms of features. After all, the D300 is 2 years old and needs a replacement (D300s is the same camera with movie mode from rumors).

IMO, K-7 beats the D300 for "special" features like movie mode and HDR, but the D300 does beat the K-7 in AF and AF points (tracking) :-D

Agreed. Just like the K10D was between the D80 and D200.

AF point are about the only thing the D300 has up on the K-7. There may be some Nikon-specific voodoo like the Matrix metering that differs, but I could care less about that (do we REALLY need a colour meter now that it's all digital?)

K-7's newer, and smaller. Lens lineup's probably not as good, I spose.

The backwards compatibility's better, but it's funny how everyone rants on about how "all Nikon lenses fit on this camera! Whoa! Amazing! It's just a small fee from Nikon!" and give Pentaxes a negative nod with a sentence weasly-worded: "It *is* possible to mount older K-mount lenses, but, unfortunately, you lose functionality."
