K-7 Firmware Update 29th July

"I have been told by a very reliable source that a new firmware will be available on July 29. Two issues faced, concerning AF tracking. Look at Pentax Japan site on this day!

Cheers, Anavasi"

"that is big news! sure its not just a roumer?

happyant"

"Sure it is not a rumor! I saw the internal official announcement on Friday, but release is delayed for the 29th. Seams like Pentax staff is not sleeping.

Anavasi"

Already? The camera has barely been out for a month yet... Hopefully it addresses some problems others have been facing.

This is inevitable. I'm sure there will be several more firmware updates over the coming months. Some of which may address noise issues.

I *really* do hope they work on sorting out the minor niggles in the UI and imaging before they move onto stuffing the next body full of even more clandestine features. I'm hoping that the K7 is enough of a make-or-break camera for Pentax's reputation that they will actually try hard to support it and give it that last bit of polish before the big review sites pick it up.

(Bonus stream of consciousness wishlist: Make the "green button resets to auto/default setting" behaviour universal in all menu options and shooting settings. Some advanced two button combos, like Nikon's two button card format would ba a nice touch. No reason not to allow shutter control in movie mode. PLEASE allow tethering. Customisable functions for the RAW button. )

I'm not surprised, I always said it would come very soon, the 1.0 firmware has been rushed out of the door to be able to ship asap. Do you remember how it was not ready until the very last minute? There is quite a few bugs already that have been discovered (broken Tv in Hyper-P, left AF sensor not working under some conditions, ...) but fortunately they are all seem to be relatively minor.

I agree, there is many opportunities to make use of the green button. More use of the e-dials also. They're already used a lot but sometimes they just do nothing when they could (for example to select the flash mode with the front dial).

hopefully they address the AF point selection usability issue and add a threshold level where the AF illumination lamp fires

Amen! That's my only major gripe with the K-7. They have the priority for the "OK" button backwards...it should be in AF selection mode by default & if you tap it it switches to function mode so you can adjust WB, Flash, etc.... I also love that on the K20D I can tap the AF button and AF returns to the center point, that needs to be added back to the K-7 as well. I guess we will find out tomorrow

Surely there is more to this update than just adding one new feature to the camera menu?

Is there a full changelog anywhere?

What's not going to happen? They just released 1.01 and they did address the AF selection point method.
