PentaxK-7 in Oz

Full page K-7 add in Australia's only national newspaper is nice to see. It wouldn't have been cheap. Aus$1999 is about US$1700 right now.

Is that $1999 for body only or a kit?

You can get local stock K-7s body-only for about $1500 if you buy online, and even factoring postage into the equation, it's actually quite comparable to buying from OS.

A$1500 is about US$1300, and that's the price BH/Adorama are selling their K-7s for. But keep in mind that if you buy from OS, since the camera is over A$1k, Customs will hit you with an extra 10% on top of that for GST...

The AUD is doing pretty well at the moment actually, up to about US$0.86

$1999 would have to be for a kit. I got my body only over-the-counter for $1560 from a camera house store.

It's a kit with the 18-55 WR lens. I tried to attach a photo of the add to the original post but failed

Pentax are starting to make themselves known in Australia.
Considering they have lass than 2% of the share of dSLR sales, this is a bold step forward.

Pentax featuring the compactness, weathersealing and robustness of the K7 at a relatively attractive price point compared to other bodies with good 'outdoors' weather resistance is probably a good move in the AU marketplace.

CRK must have done some market research, and it seems to have suggested to them that active lifestyle photographers in this wide, brown and also sports-mad country would welcome those features highlighted in the K7. They are probably onto something.

They shouldn't overdo it though and make it sound like the K7 is some sort of clunky but limited feature heavy duty device, like the 'tradesmen' or 'farmer' model mobile phones some vendors have on the market here. Ugh.

Maybe next we'll be seeing an olive green K7 (like the olive green KM). Not sure if want...

K7 available for $1289 at DWI online, I got my K20 there for only $845. I think postage was about $45.

Wow! I think the $1289 offer at DWI must be the cheapest in Australia?? Any other place I look is in the $15XX mark.

Anyone else ordered from DWI apart from Ozlizard?

I just got a K-7 and DA 17-70 SDM for my Dad. We found that the price for the body was roughly similar between most legitimate Australian online stores and B&H/Adorama, and ended up buying from camerastore.com.au.

Lenses on the other hand, are way way way way more expensive here... For instance, DA* 300/f4 is $1326AUD from B&H, and $2460AUD from camera-warehouse.com.au!!! Nearly twice the price to buy locally... Makes it hard to justify supporting local business.
