OZ Pentaxian - Kx now avail at Vanbar and Cameraction

Not sure if this is old news but I just found out that Kx is available at cameraction for A$789 (they are accepting orders now). Vanbar is selling the Kx for A$696 (body only).

Well this is good news for Pentax in Australia.
A great beginner-intermediate dSLR at a very affordable price.

Now this is the good part. Vanbar's offer for K-x (white) with kit lens (white) is selling for A$753.

BHPhoto is selling K-x (white) for USD650 plus USD65 (UPS delivery) = USD715. At a conversion rate of 0.9 to the Oz dollar, this is A$794 which is slightly more expensive than vanbar's price. So I would say this is a good deal.

Very good deal. Someones doing something right with Pentax bodies here in Australia, even the K7 hit our shores at a better price than I had imagined.

Yeah that would be in the specs, look it up! Or go read the countless threads about how some people think this actually matters in an entry level camera.

I keep meaning to order some chems and film from Vanbar, except for that bloody menu bar they have in the store part of the website whose makers proudly tout its cross-platform compatibility when doesn't even work in Opera!

Still, I'd best get some Tri-X...

Just an update on the availability of the K-x. Teds is now selling the body + kit lens for A$799.95. Not sure what colours are available. I am guessing only black is in the store.

- digidirect is $699 body only or $749.00 with kit Pentax 18-55,
- ryda.com.au has it for $768.85 or $848.85 w. kit lens.
- even dirtcheap have it for $739.00 / $799 w Pentax kit 18-55
(although they say it is the WR 18-55, which doesn't make sense).

@lithos - I also HATE the vanbar menu. Glad I'm not alone on that. It has blocked me from buying stuff off them.

I think digidirect, ryda and dirtcheap all sell grey import sets? Vanbar I think is selling the CRK set. If the price difference between grey imports and local sets is this small, i think vanbar holds the better deal......

Nope. Digidirect, ryda and dirtcheap all sell only CRK official imports with full local warranty.

Visit their sites - ryda especially. You can't miss their '100% official imports' statements.

It wouldn't be so bad if the menu's makers didn't make a big thing about being an excellent product (and that Vanbar paid for it.)

But it's good the K-x is rolling out fast. Didn't we used to get lumped with delays in K10D days? Well in time for Christmas.

I think Hoya's shaking Pentax up a bit. Good thing. The price is good, too - no more of that "surcharge" business.

I don't need one but I sure do want one.... a really ugly bright one. Like yellow or orange with a green grip or something.

If i had the money i'd be hitting up one of my japanese buddies to order one.

For some reason, the pricing on Pentax dSLR bodies here has always been pretty competitive.

E.g. the K7 on BH is going for US$1300. That's ~A$1430 right now thanks to the strong $A , but don't forget, importing it will attract 10% gst.
But, a quick shopbot search reveals it's available locally from approx ~$1400-$1500.

It's in the lenses that we get shafted big time, and also, CRK have always seemed to like pairing bodies with the Sigma kit lens instead of the Pentax ones.

My biggest gripe with CRK. To me, it's unforgiveable, but they are getting better.

A lot of damage has been done over the past fifteen years to Pentax's name in Australia because of that, I'd say: "Pentax? The camera company who can't even make its own lenses?"

I'm hoping Pentax gives CRK the arse and sets up Pentax ANZ.
