Shutterbug reviews K2000

Picking up some breakfast cereal at the grocery store this afternoon, I chanced upon a most positive review of the K2000 in the latest Shutterbug magazine. The reviewer summed it up as the perfect camera to give to a budding digital photographer.

It seemed like the usual not to offend Shutterbug review... maybe a little on the positive side. Although Pentax never had gotten much attention in the magazine, Henry Froehlich always had nice things to say about Pentax Cameras - all the way up until his death last year.

I just got my issue today. Very odd timing. Being a new KM/K2000 owner, I felt the review was fair. It's a great camera and is great in combination with the DA LTDs. I do wish there was a focus indicator visible in the viewfinder. Using center point gives me confidence that the focus is accurate a majority of the time.

Nice review. Just ordered a K2000 yesterday, arriving on Saturday (for my mom, bought a K110D for my dad earlier - an all Pentax family). Lets see how it measures up against my K10D and istD. The multilens kit pricing is outrageously good - prefect combo for my parents who are just getting into DSLRs after years of P&S cameras.

I skimmed thru the review at the news stand. I noticed the reviewer has written a Magic Lantern book on Pentax DSLR (forgot model). Made me think he was a very qualified reviewer to know if newest features are a positive step forward for this Pentax model.

AMBIVALENCE, the quick answer is price. The K2000 combo 18-55 and 50-200 went for a smidgen over $500 (a steal really). All due to the introduction of the KX - last year's model had to go for firesale prices. I've been playing with it - really very nice and the perfect kit for my mom. I am going to have her try a Pentax 50mm f2.0 and see if she can use a manual focus lens (may be hard due to her age).

Just put a DA40 on it be done with it. Great combo. Like having a big point & shoot that you can actually use.

The DA40 is a great lens (almost invisible on my istD). I love my mom but they will have to pry that lens from my cold dead hand. Besides, my mom doesn't have LBA (yet). The SMC 50 f2 will also make a decent portraits lens for her.

I will have to pick up an issue. I have a KM (K2000), bought in April. I love the little guy...nice companion body to my K10D.

The KM is dwarfed by the 16-45 Pentax I have on it as an everyday lens.
