Samsung's new BSI (backside illumination) CMOS sensor will be in production by 2010

Samsung Electronics plans to put it's BSI (backside illumination) type CMOS into production by early 2010. A 1.4μm BSI CMOS can get the same image quality as if it gets from a 1.75μm FSI (front side illumination) type CMOS. It is about 30% more sensitive than the conventional FSI CMOS. The initial production will have 1460mp & 30fps and will be used on digital camera, camcorder and high end mobile phone.

As I understand it's not for DSLR. Very small pixel size.

I do hope the put one in a DSLR.

The gains are limited with much more large sensors, it has to do with the wire and sensor size relationship

Sony has gone through this already, and although it might help out the P&S market it's not applicable to DSLR's.
