Secure Digitial High Capacity- card that hold more the 2G. So the cards that have 4 or 8 G can be used. I think in a nut shell that is the definition

I believe the latest update simply improves the compatibility for some bigger cards.

Wonder if companies will do firmware updates to use SDHC cards in P&S cameras? They are doing it for the DSLR cameras. If not the P&S may run out of cards some day. Try to buy a new Smart Media card now.
thanks

I would expect that newer cameras will include support for the larger cards, the older cards it would be unlikely as they are made to a price point, maybe the more expensive P&S cameras will though.

I was fortunate to find a couple 64 MB SmartMedia cards for my Fuji P&S this past spring - a steal after I talked the seller into giving them at $5 each. Now I can't find them anywhere. I just hope they last long enough for my 7 year old son to learn how to use the Fuji, then he can move on when he's ready.

I still have an Olympus 4040 that uses Smart Media cards. Lucky to have a few 128mb cards for it. Love the camera because it will shoot ultra high contrast B&W and show the preview on the lcd. Helpful for visualization.
thanks

My Pentax Optio MX4 takes 4Gb cards fine with original firmware.

Another point: I understand not all 4Gb cards are SDHC as the original
SD standard was up to I think 8Gb. SDHC standard is up to 32Gb. This
if true may mean there are 4Gb SD cards and 4Gb SDHC cards, not
necessarily interchangeable. I only borrowed the 4Gig card so I cannot
refer to it now but I do know it did not say 'SDHC' anywhere on it.

Hopefully this will not reduce your confusion!

Hi,
SD Standard is max 2 GB, all above is 'freestyle'. (SDHC is max 32 GB as mentioned.)
On the card it says either 'SD' or 'SDHC', both in logo style.
Best regards
Jacob
