Pentax Optio A10 shutter delay

Has anyone ever had a problem with shutter delay on their P&S?

My mother in law has a Optio A10. She says when she takes a picture the shutter doesn't work for about a second after she presses it. For example, she's getting a lot of pictures of where the grand children were and not a lot of the grand children themselves.

I am not familiar with this camera so I don't know how to help her. If anyone has had this problem or can think of a reason why it might be happening or what she can do to fix it, please let me know.
