with everything 'vintage' so cool nowadays why would she not want to use a film camera? thats like instant cool factor.... ah well. I got my mother into photography with an optio M40, she loves it.

I bought an E50 a few months ago for my mother (who doesn't do so well with technology) to replace the old film P&S she used to use.

I'm really quite impressed with what it delivers as a camera for its cost, including the results. Its reluctance to fire the flash leads to slightly more noise than I'd like in some photos, but it's not exactly hard to fix later. Better than washed out faces, I guess.

And the other day when I went to visit I heard something that shocked me:

"I took it off automatic and started trying the other settings"
(Meaning out of Program mode, and into the various scene modes)

So well done Pentax! I don't remember another piece of technology which has encouraged (and enabled) her to experiment with the more advanced settings before!

Cheap and good

Just got the E40 on an impulse buy. Decent PnS for very little money.
