Question Optio W10 turn-on problem

Hello, all. I have inherited from my grad-school daughter an Optio W10. I charged up the battery, turned it on and got the date/time settings done. Then I hit OK -- and the camera shut itself off!

Further atttempts to turn it on result in this: The Optio logo comes up on the screen for about 4 seconds -- and it turns itself off again. It never gets to a "battery depleted" message.

So, I'm wondering: Is it a battery problem, or something inside this electronic marvel? I'd hate to drop $30 for a new battery only to find it's something else, but if a new battery is the cure, it's no problem.

Gotta say, my ol' K1000 SLR never gave me such a problem! (Old film guy harumphs off into the twilite...)

Try cleaning the connections and make sure you lock the door after inserting the battery.
If it is the original battery, it could just be not holding a charge anymore. Take the camera into a store that sells Pentax. They won't have the W10 but should have a W30 or W60. Ask them if you can try the battery from their demo model in your camera.

Maybe that's why your daughter gave it to you.

It sure sounds like a caput battery to me but I certainly cant say that with any certainty. if it uses the same D-LI63 Lithium-Ion that my M40 uses, those things are prone to going bad. I purchased a new rayovac for I think $45. I think either B&H or Adorama (dont remember which one) had the Pentax brand for slightly cheaper though.
