What's your back-up P&S camera ?

I had a Fuji S5200 and the wife made me sell it when I ordered the K100D; had a C*N*N G6, but gave it to my son and his wife...

I suppose you could say that my backup is a Holga, but I haven't touched it since I got my K10. I don't find much use for compacts in the ordinary grind.

Will, it's interesting that you mention this. I don't have enough "in the hand" time to compare the two models, but I have found the K10 to be a bit noisier without the battery grip than with it.

I have the K10D for pretty much everywhere I go - including parties/gatherings etc. If I don't have it, I just use my phone seeing as it has a 3mp camera in it anyway. Not the best because you have no real control over it, but takes some decent looking pictures!

I don't really have a back up, per se. However, my wife has a Casio EX-S600 that we take when I don't want to haul the K100 around.

It's a nice compact little camera, 6MP and uses an SD card.

She really enjoys it.

That's where my Olympus E-20 comes in. Even though it's a DSLR (sort of, non-removable lens) it has a beam splitter, like the old Canon Pellix. You can turn off all the beeps, and the shutter sound can be turned off too.

It's great for situations like a concert at St Martin in the Fields in London, where a shutter going "klunk" would probably get me kicked out!! It also allows me to do some, shall we say, quiet photographs of places that cameras are generally frowned upon.

Beats using a blimp, which is what I'd need for the other SLR's. Especially the RB67, that's one LOUD shutter!

But if at all possible, I use the K10D because it gives me the best images.

I'd like a Ricoh R5 or R6. They have about a 28-200 on them. SD cards. AA batteries (I think).

would use the Optio 33LF, but it's bulkier, and the Li-Ion on the Powershot lasts longer

Apart from the above Ricoh, I don't really have a film P&S or not what I would call P&S. I guess my Ricoh KR10M, and Pentax P30ts could be termed as a P&S camera's as it has a fully auto feature (not that I ever use it).

Was a Optio WPi, gave that to the parents, got me a nice new Optio W30, its a great camera. Do sacrfice some things, but its tough and water/soda/BEER proof

I use a Casio Z-600 because it has no shutter lag when focused and takes very nice photos in good light, fits in my pocket with all metal construction.

Took this from a boat with the Z-600.

I've been using Samsung S500 Digimax, stays in the car most of the time, for those "I got to take a snap of this..." moments, and it does rather well for what it is.

But I'm seriously thinking of adding K100D to the bag for streets scenes and walkarounds, just keeping one wide range lens on it to minimize the dust between the lens changes.

After seeing so many fantastic shots and what K100D is capable of, and price after rebate of $410 - I really consider this camera a best bang for the buck from any under $800 camera of any brand!

Canon SD 700 IS with water housing. might eventually replace it with a Fuji FinePix F30 for its low light abilities. I'd strongly consider the Pentax W series if only they had optical IS built in.

I have just bought the above-mentioned P&S. It is not really a backup, more like something that stays in my bag so I can take a shot anywhere.

Apart from a couple of built issues (a little plasticky and SD card shares the same compartment as the batteries), the IQ and performance/responsiveness of the camera have been excellent. The low light performance is OK but if I know I will be taking photos in low light, I will have my DS with me anyway, so not really an issue for me. Surprisingly the flash exposure has been very good too!
