What's your back-up P&S camera ?

A FujiFilm E310 (3mp/6mp (interpolated)). Nice little camera. It's what I took my profile pic with. The K110D is too big and pricey to be holding up pointed backwards and snapping away with one hand on a gravel road.

I just bought a pentax k10d. that is a point and shoot right? not that compact though, i guess the designers at pentax don't focus on practicality. or aesthetics. maybe they dont have designers. but then it's my first digital camera, what do I know? I'm sure technology will get smaller with time.

My "backup"?

I got a Contax T2 some years back, as a handy P&S for when I didn't have my SLR with me. So good was it, though, that I stopped taking my SLR with me, and learned to live without interchangeable lenses, filters, etc. It has a stunningly sharp Zeiss lens, with superb contrast, and is just a joy to hold in the hand, a wonderful jewelled mechanism.

Mine is fuji f20. I wish I had gone for the f30 but didn't have enough money. The f20 is no slouch though, it just doesn't have manual controls of the f30. I carry it with me everywhere I go, except toilet and bed .

A Contax G2 35mm autofocus rangefinder with a Zeiss T* 45/2 Planar and a Zeiss T* Biogon 21/2.8.

Bought it for use at concerts and for street photography. I love the 35mm field of view and the lack of mirror-slap. Tack-sharp exposures in extreme low-light are no problem at all! And this is an incredibly sophisticated camera... auto winder, excellent metering, huge range of ISO values, multiple-exposures and a lens-system whose quality is second to none. I love this camera.

It's louder than a Leica, but at 120dB+ at 1m from the speaker, I'm not particularly bothered by that

Fuji F11... it's quite old now, but I love it, it's still very good and the newer p&s aren't much better!

When Fuji releases a wide-angle and/or stabilised p&s I might buy it, but the F20 F30, F31 and F40 (this one doesn't even have apperture/shutter priority modes) are almost the same and not worth the upgrade..

Fuji F30 - great little cam for what it is. If this thing had 28mm WA and SR - it would literally knock the socks off any P&S ever made by any company. Well and RAW too I guess Cant have everything right. Still a very nice pocket cam and makes suprsingly good ISO1600 prints. Fuji did good with the F series cams -especially the 30/31.

I have a Canon A40 a whopping 2.3 mp and has been a great little camera for work shots, I'm a builder so I always take shots of all the wiring,plumbing etc in every wall before plaster.
It takes some punishment on the job, my dl with the 10-20 however is invaluable for getting the wider angle I need from time to time.

The K10D gets the bulk of the use.

Then the K110 which is a great walk about camera and nice and light. I think the better travel camera since it uses AA batteries.

But as a camera that is always either in the car or camera bag is a Kodak DX7590.
Great little camera. SLR body shape 5Mp, 10x zoom Schneider-whatcamacallit lens (38-380 eqiv.). The camera will even take an outboard flash via PC cable I tried it with my AF400T and it worked fine but you've never seen anything more ridiculous looking together. Good for a video clip about U Tube quality as well.

I also got my wife a Kodak V610 and that is one great camera. It also has a dual Schneider-whatcamacallit lens system (1 wide and 1 longer lens). Better LCD than my K10D ( I hate to admit) and at 6.1 takes a great picture. It's even blue tooth (look ma no hands! (cables)). She loves it because it's so damn small and light (about the size of your cell phone).

The Kodaks are both Pic Bridge so we can avoid a zillion types of software on the PC.

I hate to call either of these as 'backups'. My trusty workhorse An LX and a PZ-1p But the film gear is getting less and less use. This instant gratification thing with a digital is getting all the attention.

Back up began as a Pentax EI-200. Not so much back up but light travel camera.

Now I use Kodak DX-7590, again for same purpose, light travel camera.

if I could, I would like all the same features, in the DX-7590 with the following changes:
-image stabilization
-modified zoom ratio 20/24-120/150 mm equivelent as opposed to 38-380mm present lens not wide enough and too long
-F2.8 lens not F3.7
-real macro capability

This camera goes with me on all business travel and is used for technical photographs.

My real backup to the K10D is my *istD

My backup camera is Fuji S5600 (S5200 in US). Amazing gem of a camera. Not exactly pocketable but definitely compact compared my K100D. I havent shot with it for a while now but looking back I'm always amazed what it can do. Here are two ISO 800 shots (EXIF intact).
