If you want to DIY the link above has the needed information. A lot are just shutter but you can also have one that does focus. Plus way of keeping the shutter on is handy for long exposures.
Very straightforward. costs less that $10 to make. All the parts are readily available, got mine at Radio Shack. Works better than the old fashion mechanical cable release for film slr's. You can set the camera for 2 second delay and mirror lock up (K100D) so you get even less vibration on a tripod. The bulb mode switch is a nice touch.
I was a bit leary of ordering one of those on ebay that comes from China and am too cheap to get the genuine article.
Personally, I'm disappointed that cameras these days don't use plain old cable reseases. I have a 4x5 and an RB67 that can use regular cable releses. So do my MX's.
But the newer cameras all need some sort of proprietary release that you can't just pop into the local camera shop and buy.

grumble, grumble, gripe and mumble!
The ebay knock off cable releases work just fine, and cost much less than the brand name models....

I prefer the Linhof release. It costs a lot of money, but it lasts for a long time. A not especially release worked fine on my RB676 but it wouldn't trip the wide angle 90mm on my 4x5.
Can't someone rig up an adapter that plugs into the mini plug of the cameras and accepts a standard cable release, all it has to do is short the contacts, after all.
Can anyone kindly throw light on the most suitable wireless remote for the K10D? There seem to be a few versions of the Remote F and I am confused. Looking to use it for time photography (bulb) and would of course prefer it to focus prior to releasing the shutter. (Apropos, doesn't Pentax have a camera back for teh K10D to control functions? (Example: Command Back 90 for the Canon T90). Thank you.
I don't know about "which version" of the Remote F, I thought there was only one. I bought mine from Amazon for under 20.00 and it works with my DL and K10D.
I am finally getting back to responding to this thread. I have had this remote for about a month now and have used it on a few shoots now flawlessly. It does focus with half press. It also does Bulb, but you have to hold the button down the entire time which is a pain but it will do.
I am not sure how far out it works. But it is farther than the infared remotes. I kind of wish now that I would have got the Pentax F remote since I have the grip and could store it in there. Oh well, this one works.
The only thing I don't like is the battery door on the remote is cheap and barely stays in place as is. I am afraid it is going to break off sooner or later considering it is just thrown in my bag at the end.
