How can I protect the back LCD?

I purchased a Delkin generic 2.5 inche popup shade for my K10, and then slipped off the popup part. The remaining protector is clear and does not impare my viewing of the image on the camera. While I know not everhone agrees with putting a protector on the LCD, I look at it as being the same as buying a UV filter for a lens, it's cheaper to replace a filter/protector than the lens or having my camera sent back to Pentax to replace a broken LCD.

That's my 2 cents.

I pinch the screen protectors from my daughters Nintendo ds because she won't use them anyway. They are cheap £1.99 for two and they are exactly twice the size of my DL2's screen so I get 4 @50p each (approx $1 USD).
I don't believe you need anything more durable than this, they stick on easily, peel off just as easily and leave no residue, and if you manage to damage the screen under one of them, then you are most certainly abusing your camera. Mines in perfect condition and it gets thrown in a backpack with all my hiking gear whenever I go out walking, and in my rucksack with my sandwiches when I go to work.

I've gone the Delkin popup route. I don't even know where the shade is anymore. The reason I got it is that i'm rough on my equipment, and any added measure of protection brings some added peace-of-mind.

Aside from one P&S display that I broke, (I dropped the camera by accident on a rock) and I now hold the display together with clear packing tape, I have not had a problem with any of my displays. My *istD is almost 4 years old, and the K10D a year old.

A protector will not prevent damage as I have experienced, and they are actually softer and more prone to scratches than the display they protect. I can see the value and use on on my PDA, where you consistantly attack it with not only the stylus but with ball point pens, and any other object necessary for the touch screen, but do not ever plan to use one on a DSLR

Some...

...dont remove the Intel logo from their notebooks, dont remove the protection covers from their remote controls, drive around with plastic envelopes covering the seats of their cars, keep the "passed" mark on their lenses, buy UV filters to protect them, buy protection shields for screens already protected like tanks (the iPhone), buy extended warranties, buy ... name it. But have no health insurance.

I use the Dicain hard acrylic type, it comes in a set of 2. One for the back LCD and one for the top. Looks kinda nice too.

Personally, I find screen protectors a waste of time and money. Never used them when I had my Nikon D70s nor now with my Pentaxes. Never had a scratch and so much easier to clean those oily smudges from greasy noses with a quick wipe with denatured alcohol.

I've used their products too. One for my mp3 player, nintendo ds, and one for my moto q, but I don't like how they hold up over time. While they are pretty durable, I don't think it does the screen justice. I use Expertshield screen protectors now. They're made from a different type of material. Much better in my opinion because you can barely tell there is a screen protector on the screen and they're sized more accurately.

Any of the 2.5" Delkins will work. At London Drugs, where I found mine, all they needed was the LCD size. I dislike having to open and close, but it beats the (as one poster said) "schnoz smears" and adds a bit of shade when trying to see the thing in bright light. The snap open shade just clips on and off, so indoors, I take it off.

Resale value. I place these on the camera on the back LCD and also on the top. I will always be upgrading and selling my old equip. I sold my Canon 20D and got a good price for it (to get my Pentax K20D) and the main reason is because not only did it not have any scratches, but because it also had that shine to it like new.


I had an extra one of these from my iPhone. it is stiffer than others I have tried, and goes on very easy and leave no bubbles, just have to trim it a touch first. The piece that goes on the back of the iPhone is thinner and once trimmed goes nicely on the top lcd. I got these at the Apple store. This link is for the Anti-Glare version, which is good for sunlight, but I don't care for the texture, it interferes with viewing. I would recommend the "Crystal Clear" version which is available in their stores, but I didn't see it on the website when I looked. The Crystal Clear is nice.

I bought a generic Delkin 2.5" and it fits my K10D just fine. I love the thing. No smears on the LCD because the "lid" prevents it. Handy in the bright sun as well.
