Sigma OS and Pentax VR

I see Sigma are coming out with Optical stabilisation in their lenses. Any one have any idea whether or not this will be compatible/complementary with the built-in VR of Pentax? Or will one or the other have to be switched off?

I'd be surprised if they could work together properly as they would both try to make the correction.

I don't think Sigma will have OS lenses for Pentax. If so, you'd have to turn off one or the other. There is no chance that Sigma's OS could communicate with Pentax's SR.

It is my understanding that lens based and sensor based shake reduction don't work well together. SOmeone did a test of this on the Oly E 510 with the Leica 14-50 OS lens and found that both systems worked well but didn't work in tandem.

Wow - great video, thanks Steve. What I got from it was that the in-body stabilisation was equal to, if not better than, the in-lens stabilisation - agree?

The common opinion seems to be that in lens works better at long focal lengths and the sensor based works better at shorter, but I have not seen any proof of this. To me it doesn't matter really because with my K100d I can get a reliable 2 stops and sometimes up to 4 on telephoto shots with the proper technique and that is enough for me.

i guess we will have to wait for the pentax engineering scientists to create a pentax DA*SR that has a relationship with the built in SR rather than an interference

Or just have in-lens optically stabilized lenses that require camera SR to be disabled or force camera SR to be disabled.

Canikonians disagree. What else can they do?

Well just watching that video the body one seemed steadier than the lens one, but of course other people defending their choice of manufacturer will probably just say theirs is better than Leica's!
