50-200mm

Ok I did a search on this lens and went to the reviews and am just needing a little encouragement in buying this lens. I have a $15 cupon code for CircuitCity and it is on sale for $159. After tax and cupon is this lens really worth $157? I made an offer on one which I don't think the guy is going to bite and plus for just a little more money I will have new with the option to return in 30 days. So bottom line is this lens worth it's weight in price?

In a word Yes!! For the money, you are getting a very good unit with a nice light lens with good IQ and features (quick shift). There are better lenses around of course but you'd be looking at 5-7 times the price in similar focal lengths. Buy it any have fun shooting.

Thanks for the response. All I have right now is an FA 50 f1.4. My camera is due to arrive Thursday so for now I have only the lens and a manual vivatar 75-205 f 3.5. Since I am new I would like an AF lens and then learn the manual. I also have a second fa50 and will be either selling it or trading it for a 10-20 sigma.

great start! Just remember that in most cases a prime lens is going to outperform a zoom in image quality in a number of ways. There is a trade off between having the flexiblity of a zoom and the image qualities and speed of a prime lens. The FA50 is an awesome lens and is faster and delivers great images but it's fixed. The zoom will be slower (needs more light) and will not be as sharp as the prime. Both have a place in the camera bag though. Everyone from hobbiests to pros will shoot with both types of lenses.

To see some examples from each have a look at these images:

BTW the Sigma is a great lens

I bought my camera from Beach and the Holliday rebate clearly states you must have the 50-200 on the same reciept as the "kit" meaning if you bought body only you would not qualify. Trust me I thought about it.

Many thanks to CajunCutter for the find. I have been looking for a good deal on this lens. Wow, $160. Note the return policy is only 14 days for lenses. But, who is going to return this one?
