TAMRON TC converter pics

Hi Folks.
I have done much reading and my own research on TC converters. After much reading I decided that 1.4 is the max before image quality is destroyed. To make a long story short, Samy's camera had one in stock.. I picked it up and I must say that I am impressed. So far today I have tested it with my K100D super with the 18-250 tamron lens and with the sigma 70-300apo lens...Here are some ''snap shots'' I took from outside the window of my truck while driving back to work. These are rushed shots, but I must say I am impressed. These pics have been only resized to fit here...

These snap shots were taken with out any thought and simply for the sake of sharing here. When I get home tonight I will hook it up to my K10D and try it with my DA* LENSES and some primes and see what happens.

By the way, I paid $118.00 bucks for it and worth every penny so far.

I am currently considering the Kenko 1.5x since someone tested it with DA* and it worked. But your Tamron 1.4x produced great results, I might get this one instead if it works on SDM.

just a curiosity point, why tamron 1.4x and not sigma.

Was there an issue with the front element placement on the sigma 1.4x and interference with your tamron lens?

I was going to buy the Kenko 1.5 but decided against it because I could not get any good feedback about it any place. It may very well be a good one, but I do not know.

Yep, The Tamrons element fit inside the body, where the sigma one that I saw fit in the lens. The Tamron TC will work with any lens and it is multi coated. I was using it most of the day today and the Tamron TC only lost 1/2 a stop, not a full stop.

I underatand everything but the last comment.

Linear multiplication of 1.4 is in area double the coverage with the same light, or 1/2 the intensity

Since each stop is measured as 1/2 light of the previous, what you state is physically impossible.

The lens was the 70-300 APO With tc converter 420mm..Not bad.
All hand held....

Ok, here is one more pic from today.
I am really surprised at how well this Tamron 1.4 tc works.
This is 420mm and pretty sharp. Hand held and thats it.
Sigma 70-300APO lens and Tamy 1.4 MC-4 tc

The Kenko isn't bad at all... I've been told (but have no 1st hand knowledge) that the Kenko and Tamron are actually the same TC. Again that is only have I've read and been told. I haven't taken too many shots with it but here are a couple of examples of the Kenko attached to a Tokina 400mm f/5.6 AT-X (latest version with the tripod colar).

Handheld
Pentax K10D ,Tokina 400mm f/5.6 AT-X
1/500s f/6.7 at 600.0mm iso400 (with 1.5x TC)


Using one of those walking sticks that doubles as a monopod:
Pentax K10D,Tokina 400mm f/5.6 AT-X
1/1000s f/6.7 at 600.0mm iso400(with 1.5x TC)


Handheld trying to Pan (which is why its a little bit softer)

Hey would it be possibe for you to take a pic of both sides of your kenko and I will do the same for the tamron to see if they look they same.
I am also curious as to why the tamron is 1.4x and the kenko is 1.5x
