Why I love my Sigma 17-70mm!

From a series documenting the construction of a pedestrian bridge. The Sigma 17-70mm is a very nice lens!

I also get great results shooting indoors - close to the subject wide open - f/2.8. For my needs, 17-70mm is an ideal focal range. This lens combined with a 70-200mm f/2.8 (hopefully the Tamron

) is just about all that I'll need for my photojournalism work.

I've read that the Sigma 17-70mm produces great IQ on k20d's - which is on my list.

Yes that would be nice. Still the Sigma 17-70 is really nice on my K20D

The 14MP makes such a difference. Did a macro shot of a wasp sting on my skin and I swear you can see the skin cells

I would take an f/2.8 to f/4.5 over a constant f/4 any day

I'm another big fan of the 17-70. Before I went on vacation last summer I was waiting and waiting for the DA * 16-50mm but it wasn't released in time so I "settled" for the Sigma. After all the problems with the 16-50 I am so glad that it wasn't released on time. The Sigma was perfect for the trip and produced some great shots and I took a lot of them (I probably took around 1500ish shots with it over the 3.5 week vaca). My tokina AT-X 400mm getting the rest

Vignetting ??

My 17-70 suffer absolutely no vignetting, it does suffer slight distortion though (correctable in PP), perhaps you mean this ??

I agree with the OP that the 17-70 is an excellent lens, I particuarly like its contrast/colour rendition, pretty sharp too !!

I think some of the negative comments regarding the 17-70 are due to Sigmas Quality control, get a good copy and its an excellent lens - looking forward to the Pentax version to see if it can improve upon the Sigma, it's got a job on tis hands !! - it hopefully won't suffer the CA that some of the new lenses seem to.
