So have you done away with all of your M42 gear for the older K-mounts???

Thanks for the info. Weather is horrible here in Waterloo Ontario today. I don't have any M series shots I care to post at this time. I know this an M series thread but as an experiment I tried loadiing a SMC K 300mm. pic. I hope this works. Some M series to follow as time and weather inproves.


Hey this is cool! This goose was steaming around the pond like a battleship the other day. I'll take the M lenses down to the pond and see how they perform.

Albert: Nice shot, I'd kill for that lens... We have loons here also (state bird)
and their calls at dusk and early evening are haunting. I often canoe/camp up by
the Canadien border (BWCA) and sometimes plan a trip just to hear the loons.
Usually one pair to a lake, unless the lake's big.

Abbazz: Thanks for the compliment. And you're right, compromises have to be
made with every lens design choice - making them smaller/lighter's going to
introduce a bit more CA. But seeing as my $60 SMC-M 135 shows about the
same amount of LOCA as my $750 DA* 50-135 at 135 (ie: not very much at all)
I'd say it's a compromise I'm willing to live with!

aruxaru: Congrats, you picked up a nice piece in the 50 1.7. Once you get
better at MF, the pleasure shooting that will increase quite a bit, and you'll
want even more M primes. (and A primes, and K primes, and Super Taks,
and Vivitars, etc, etc, etc..)

in, we're extremely, extremely cool.

Zewrak: Nothing's banned, and I'd love to see shots from that 150 super tak
I keep hearing about.

KungPOW, great shot, I love shots like that. More please. And that shot was a guy, I'm
pretty sure. I wanted to get a shot of the inexplicable jester shoes.

fearview: That girl's welcome anywhere But you should get out and take some
new shots too, we need to get those M's back on those cameras, at least for a day! Get goin' !

falcons: nice, especially the jumping kid. That 100's another M I covet.

Simon: You got it. As much as I would like to duplicate every focal length I
own three times over, the pragmatic side of me speaks up every now and again
and makes me sell off duplicate lengths. I almost sold that M 85 f/2 once,
but backed out at the last minute. I won't be selling any M left in my sig, in fact I'll
probably be adding a few more if anyone wants to let go of a 24, 28, 35, 100,
150 or 300.
PS - when you get the 85 & 135 package of Super Tak sweeteness, feel free
to post in here or start a SuperTak-club thread, in which I'd eagerly contribute.

TG: very nice! Reminds me of some recent DA* 300 shots we've been seeing.
In fact, I'd love to see how those two compare in an head-head IQ showdown sometime.
Glad to see you got the images working, really looking forward to those shots.

Oh, the M. :-D

I've got a 50mm f/2 and a 28mm f/2.8.

I've found the 50 great for detail half close-up-shots of what the garden and forest provides me with, and the 28 (which on digital makes a near perfect normal (42mm, the FA43 was made because that is the proper "normal", it is sayed, not the 50mm most other consider normal FOV) is great for social events in good light (locked to f/8 or 5.6, the focusing is not impossible).

Too bad noone else are able to use the camera properly, as they don't understand fully the way it works, but nevertheless, I'm happy to have metering in some way.

Some shots will probably come.. sooner or later.

Thanks Jay. This image was right out of the K10 with no post processing. That is something else I don’t know how to do yet. Thanks for being patient with my learning curve. The resolution on the K 300mm looks pretty good to me. I like the colour saturation as well. As I play around in Photoshop and enlarge the image the detail in the feathers and water droplets are extremely sharp. I am toying with the idea of getting the DA* 300. I like the SMC K 300 a lot but would welcome something a more current. This goose was in a spectacular turf fight over nesting grounds just after I took this shot. No hope of catching the action with this old timer.

I’ll take the M 150mm out when it stops raining and see how it performs. If you have a 135mm already I don’t think there is enough difference in focal length to justify getting one. Not enough difference unless you are a collector or have a terminal case of LBA.

I scored a package of 28mm 2.8, 50mm 1.4, 135mm 3.5 and 200mm M's on eBay and I love them. Sold off the 50mm due to redundancies with A's and FA's but all the others are happily with me. I hate it when I succumb to laziness and opt for the easy way out using the DA zooms.

When I first went to Pentax digital it was because I had a few screw-mounts that I really treasured, but I found stopping the lens down manually was more of an effort than I wanted. The M's, however, are just the right level of old-school to make me take a second to think about what I'm shooting.

Another boring old goose photo, but I liked the light.

I picked this lens up cheap, as a second M50 f/1.4, and there is something wrong with it... not sure what. Everything is out of focus, and very very saturated. This is RAW and developed in lightroom. But, I decided to keep it, as it is a pretty cool effect. You can see that the white and highlight and saturated areas kinda bleed outward, but it looks kinda like a painting... I was focused perfectly at the time of the shoot.

I also have a M100 f/2.8 (a newer lens I got in 1981 and my favorite lens), M135 f/3.5 (got this one for $40 at cameta a week ago, haven't shot anything worth posting yet), M85 f2.0, M200 f/4. and looking for more, probably a 28, a backup M100 f/2.8, maybe a M120 f/2.8 (? don't know much about this lens)
