DA 70mm users ... third-party hood or not?

I have the DA70 and absolutely love this lens. However, I honestly hate the retractable lens hood. It never stays in the correct position for me and sometimes I forget to extend the hood when I take the lens out of my bag. Granted, I've never had any lens flare issues with the DA70 ... I just get very frustrated by the retractable hood.

Are there any DA70 users out there who use a third-party fixed hood? Do you like it better? I know a traditional hood will take up more space in the bag, but I might be willing to live with it if it means the hood stays put.

Godfrey over on DP review mentioned he used aluminium hoods on many of his pentax lenses... I believe with the 77 he was able to keep using the stock lens cap as the design was a straight cylinder.

I don't mind the collapsable hood, I never get any flare, and usually only extract the second half outdoors.

thought the same at first but...... after i recon 1500 shots with it its second nature to extend it when you pull the cap of, the issue will be when the lens cap felt wears off and the cap starts staying in the bag{or on the ground} same comp with fa 43 and da21 {incidentaly the 70 is the best of the 3

I find the stock cap perfectly functional....and butt ugly. I hate the way it looks on the camera. But at least it isn't one of those horrid flower petal models.

I didn't like the hoods/caps that came with my Limiteds, so I knocked the glass out of a bunch of clear filters I got on clearance (for $1 each) then stacked a couple of the metal filter rings onto each lens. Then you can use a standard lens cap.
