Wonderful images as usual Jay. I'm enjoying you documenting your son's life almost as much as you are. I see you have your K 24/3.5 up for trade on the marketplace. That one must be hard to part with.
I took the K 200/2.5 to the field hockey and football games last week. This is my go to lens for sporting events.
This one is heavily cropped from the far side of the field.
Night football games really stretch the performance of any lens. Took a number of images @ ISO 1600 and wide open at f2.5 during this game.

Tom, thanks for the kind words, and I love that 'starting line' shot.
Yes, my K 24 3.5 is off to Frank tomorrow along with my K 35 3.5 and M 28 2.8 in a
trade.
Now, weird things have happened to me with lenses - I dropped my Tamron
70-200 in a lake, I thought my M 20 f4 was stolen until I found it a couple months
later in a hoodie pocket - stuff like that. Here's another one.
Got home kinda late from work and decided to quickly check craig's list before
supper - and what do I see?

"Pentex 2.8x24" ??? Heart beating fast, I shoot a quick email.... Turns out,
yes, a K 24 2.8. And on that ME, an M 50 1.7, a crappy zoom, and, for some
reason, a genuine ASAHI Pentax m42 adapter still in the green package. (None
of this stuff was m42.)
Now, when I got over there, at first glance I thought the K 24 was an M 24 -
same M-style lettering and general design aesthetic. I knew an M 24 doesn't
exist, and when I looked closer - no "M". And it felt just a little more substantial
and heavy than the usual M lens...
(K 24 2.8 on left, K 24 3.5 on right)
It's almost like this is a hybrid between the K & M lines - like a missing link
Anyway, took a few snaps in the kitchen, can't wait to get outside to try it out -
after I mail Frank his K's
These are at f/4: Crop:

More kitchen than you cared to see I'm sure, but hey, I'm excited. I'd also like
to put a role of film through that ME with the 24

Nice pickup the K24/2.8. Let me know if you do a head to head with the K24/3.5. I have both as well and would like to see which you like the best.
Yes I guess the two lenses just had time for a quick introduction and then parted company!
Let me know what you think of the K24/2.8 and how you like it compared to the K24/3.5.
Enjoy, Phil.
PS Nice kitchen shots.
Phil: I've had and sold two really nice 2.8's and now have the 3.5.
The 2.8 is lighter, seems not just to BE brighter, but to SHOOT a bit brighter at all f stops and is, of course, smaller.
The 3.5 is every bit as sharp (at least mine is), just as contrasty and has more depth to its color rendition. To my mind it is the more substantial lens.
I don't prefer one over the other and consider them lenses for different purposes.
I'll try to dig up some 2.8 shots and add some 3.5's to this thread for you.
I do love the K 200/2.5. I suspect it won't be long before our friend Jay adds one to his collection. Speaking of collections how is it the king of the K Club doesn't have the K 24/2.8 in his collection?

Hi Tom:
I do have the K24/2.8 and picked up a good copy from a local camera store last year. A few months back I did a LBA purchase of the K24/3.5, more for adding it to my collection. After testing both quite a bit over the last month or so, I can’t make up my mind which I would recommend if someone asked me.
Paul’s summary is pretty well the same as mine, they are both good and you should have both in your collection, as they both serve a purpose.
I’m also interested to see how Jay compares the two 24s.
Phil.
PS If you ask me which looks better, then it’s no contest!
Another day another game. Real football weather in S. Ontario with the temp. around freezing and overcast skies. A little hard to focus with cold hands.
Took the 55 out to play last night, as per usual it delivered the goods... (even with a seriously wobbly photographer towards the end)
Mostly at fairly high ISOs on a K20, (1000+)
We haven't had a lot of action in the K Club of late. I took some shots at the high school game this week with the K 200/2.5. It was a perfect fall day and what could be better than going to a football game?
The QB eluded a would be tackler on this spint out sequence.
The kicker had been flushed out of the pocket and had to kick on the run. He was coming right at me and I managed this one:
Those spots are not sensor dust but mud from the football cleats.

Tom is the K200/2.5 significantly better than the M200/4 (which I have)? It's a good bit heavier. This old lenses appeal to me because although a tad soft wide open they seem immune to the centering issues and general edge-to-edge unpredictability that have plagued the cheap zooms I have had in that range. I guess my question is, is the K200 wide open better or about the same as the M200 wide open? If they are about the same I can see the benefit of the extra speed.
