F 50mm f/1.7...good one?

So I have either the chance to buy an F 50mm 1.7 or the FA 50mm 1.4. I currently have a M 50mm 1.4, and chances are that I dont need the extra .3 f stop. I want the lens for the auto focus plus the ability to use the meter in camera, instead of green button shooting. Also, is the 18-55 available in B&H, I dont want to end up spending $199 on a kit lens D:

That's a great lens as well. It just doesn't pop up quite as often as the FA 1.4. As to the 18-55, I suppose you mean the Mk II version? You should be able to find it most places for $100 or so. Try Amazon.com.

If you can get the F50/1.7 for under $100US, then my advice is to run, don't walk, to the store to get it. I paid $125+ for my two most recent F50/1.7's and that was before the K10D phenomenon pushed the prices of K-mounts up. I currently own 3 copies of this lens and 5 have passed thru my muddy paws in the last 10 years. None of them were bad.

$99 Is quite a steal. Like you said: run, don't walk! Also, the build quality of the F series is regarded higher than that of the FA series. I'm happy to have both the F 50/1.4 and 1.7 versions and I love them both!

Hi. F50 1.7 is a great lens, on inside shooting it works just perfect. These pictures on the link below were taken handheld, no flash and wide open:

It was on the Barcelona Comic Festival.

I had FA50mmF1.4 before. After getting my F 50mmF1.7, I did a thorogh test. Gave it all up to decide the pros and cons of each.
At long last I keep the older F1.7 version mainly for its more classic exterior look. That was about it. I do not collect lenses. I use them.

Got it

Bought the lens...so far auto focus is fast, albeit a bit noisy...and it exposes well...plus the lens was clean, no fungus nor scratches. It was still in the original box, which has the red Pentax name faded to a dull yellow, I like the look ...So now I have 2 nifty fifties D:

I also use them, and I do collect as many as I can get my hands on. The F50 1.7 is my absolute favorite. With many just and good reasons.

My photography lens test arrays are soon to be on the web a P-Base.
