I am surprised there is no previous pictures of this lens posted on the forum
I just took a portrait of "Liddy" at f2.8, 1/30, indoor light, handheld. I will post more pictures in the near future when I get to test the lens properly.
Btw, if you are wondering, the lens is a full kilogram of metal and glass.
How about an 85-210mm f4.8 lens by Sun Opt? Is it considered off brand? Seems they had their ups and downs and name changes over almost forty years after the war.
This zoom telephoto lens is all black metal so may have been produced in the '60's or '70's in Japan.
Let's start with an example straight out of the camera. K10 with the Sun 85-210
1/30 f8 I think ISO 1600 Saturation, Contrast set to 0, Sharpness +3 - what else would you like to know?
This one is cropped and processed a bit.
"Grain" added in addition to monochrome.
Saturation and contrast increased in camera and post processed a bit
This is with the lens mounted in reverse and low powered flash
Just for fun. My reflection on our patio door window right out of the camera - not an in camera multiple exposure
Matt,
I really like the three rose pictures. The first two have a real "vintage" look to them.
Steve
I like how those turned out as well. The low light, high ISO and processing added just enough to the texture and color. I have a few other examples from that day's use in the post your photos section. I'm not one to show too many pictures of my family and friends around the Internet but some of the images I captured of my daughter were surprisingly sharp to me. I had this lens almost completely written off. Now I will have to rethink that attitude.
Yes, Soligor is odd enough. Back in the day, it was a popular brand, but now, not as well known. Looks like yours is a decent lens. Nice contrast.
Steve
I actually have 3 Soligors.. 2 of em my father bought for his Spotmatic SP in the sixties, a 35mm and a 135mm.. The 250mm I bought a few weeks ago for around 25 bucks..
I forgot to mention a ton of brands! Sorry to slight Chinon though. To the best of my knowledge there is no Chinon club and I am not sure whether anything about Chinon has ever been posted to this thread. I can assure you, however, that your photos and comments are welcome here.
Steve
I mention Chinon way way way back in the thread questioning whether or not they were off-brand. However, since we are officially considering Nikon, Canon etc. off-brand here at PF, I am o.k. with it.

When I see Soligor lenses I think of Miranda cameras.

I had almost forgotten the Miranda/Soligor connection. I actually handled a used Sensorex (1970 vintage) at the local camera repair place several months ago. My impression at the time was that it was quite heavy/sturdy and had a very dim viewfinder (semi-transparent mirror?).
I recently purchased a Samyang (Rokinon branded) 8mm fisheye - manual focus. This seems to be a very highly regarded alternative (better than Zenitar and Peleng) to the expensive Pentax/Sigma/Tamron fisheye lenses that are available today. This lense is available under the names Samyang, Rokinon, Bower, Vivitar Series I and various other brand names - they are all identical but for some reason vary greatly in price. I found the Rokinon branded version for $247.00 on Overstock.com...seems like a steal of a deal if the reviews are correct. I will post test shots once I receive my order.
