I am trying to decide if I need or simply want to own a lens? I am talking about the Takumar 55mm I already own the Tak 50 so I am wondering does the extra 5mm really make a diffrence? what are the strengths of the 55? Do I really need it (i know its one of those things only I can answer) thanks for any responses and would love to see pics taken with them to show its strengths

They are cheap enough that you could try it out and tell us what you think. I only paid about $10.00 for my Super Takumar 55mm f1.8. It does have a different quality to it then my M 50mm f1.4, and the A 50mm f2.0 that I have used. The bokeh is very unique on the 55mm f1.8, it is a little soft wide open and sharpens up nicely stopped down a few clicks.
I had a SMC 55 briefly, it was a gift to brother in law, but I had to test out the camera after all
I liked it so much that later I bought an Auto-Tak 55/1.8 for $10, even though I already have two 50/1.4s (between the varations, you can always tell yourself you're sampling the flavors)
Here's another line up of the bunch:

I did a bokeh test once, the 50's are 2 and 3, the 55 is #4.

I also did a CA/flare torture test, in which the 55 outperformed the two 50's, and was close to the 43. Which is the main reason I wanted another copy for myself. The FOV difference isn't all that much, you do notice it but soon get used to either.
Here is the brother in law's 55, on a Spottie:

and here's an impressionistic 50 also on a Spottie:
I have just managed to get my memory card out of the camera and bring it to work with me ... will upload some later on ... I have been using my 28mm ... 85mm ... and 200mm lately.
Cracked out the 105mm last night as well .... and I can see why Mike likes to take it around in the truck ... it's quite a compact little lens for what it is ... and it's nice and sharp as well.
More to come soon.

That should have been disclosed in the description...
I don't know the seller was aware of the problem. The fungus is only clearly visible in oblique light. In any case, the seller advertised that the lens was fungus free and that satisfaction is guaranteed. We will see what he does.
Here's a few newies from me ... a teaser or 2 for Mike ... a day in the life of a courier.
Super Tak 28mm ... K10D ... using hyperfocal markers for on a fly shooting while driving.
Some of these I might try my hand at B&W conversions (basic stuff through Photobucket) ... feel free to adjust if you like.

And to add again ... another one from the base of Centrepoint Tower.
Was stopped at a set of lights ... picked the camera up and took the shot just before the lights changed and I had to take-off.

A shot of our broodmare in the back paddock. ISO was around 800 as it late afternoon and the sun was pretty much down past the tree-line and it was slightly overcast.

OK ... seeing as I have posted for a few weeks I am going to whore this thread today.
A shot of my wife at a Birthday celebration for both my Uncle's ... not the best shot ... but was in a dark-ish room with with some light from the window behind.
Super Tak 85 f/1.9 ... might have been taken at f/2.8 though ... not sure.

Having the camera at the ready right next to you will forever change the way you see things around you while driving, Simon. You'll come to appreciate red lights for a change, for one thing.
I love the photo of the mare. Why not take a print out and tack it up in/near her stall? It would be nice on the wall of your home as well, of course, but may as well let the subject get a little enjoyment out of it.

Absent is the 50/4 Macro takumar, which I have yet to see what happens with, its being discussed with the seller atm, because of his crappy auction. Also missing is the 28/2.8 which is at my mums place. I am also expecting a 50/1.4 and a 105/2.8 shortly.
OK, have looked at this thread long enough and finally decided to post a few taken with the K20 and my Super Macro Takumar 50mm f/4. Also have the extension to make it equal to 100mm. Have lots of pics with this lens and have already posted several on the forum with this lens and have some in the User Photo Gallery, but these are a few I haven't posted anywhere. All in natural light. I love this little lens. Have a Tamron 90mm and have just recently purchased a Lester Dine, but don't believe this one will be left gathering dust.

First 2 are of maple seeds that I look to find every spring that end up standing. Yes, I find them just like this, I didn't touch 'em.
The next one is of drone (male bee) pupae removed from some comb that was built in the wrong spot in our beehives. Compare the size to the OOF bee in the lower edge of the pic. Cropped.
