Having the camera at the ready right next to you will forever change the way you see things around you while driving, Simon. You'll come to appreciate red lights for a change, for one thing.
I love the photo of the mare. Why not take a print out and tack it up in/near her stall? It would be nice on the wall of your home as well, of course, but may as well let the subject get a little enjoyment out of it.
She's just a paddock horse (if i put up a shot of her near her I reckon she'd eat it ... hahahaha) ... I have been meaning to go through my shots and select some of the better ones ... and take it down to my local camera place and get them printed out on matte if i can.
I just need the time to sit down and do it.
Next time out driving I am going to take the 105 with me ... I found the 28 was good for a lot of cases ... but I kept getting dashboard, bonnet in most of my shots. It was good for on a go driving shots using the hyperfocal markers though.
I'd like to get more loading dock shots ... but the problem is I'd get weird looks in Sydney holding a camera and taking a shot here and there ... I try and get most of my shots on the sly (as quick as possible).

Absent is the 50/4 Macro takumar, which I have yet to see what happens with, its being discussed with the seller atm, because of his crappy auction. Also missing is the 28/2.8 which is at my mums place. I am also expecting a 50/1.4 and a 105/2.8 shortly.
You NEEEEEED to get yourself a 105mm f/2.8.
That's a nice little lineup there ... and all in very good nick by the looks of things too.

See why I like the 105 so much? 50mm gives me the same problem you get with 28mm.

It's just a matter of having people get to know that you're a shutterbug. What I do is carry around a big folder, the kind that has those clear plastic sleeves in them, and keep A4 prints of some of my better images in there. If somebody asks something or makes a comment about you taking pictures, just ask them if they would like to see some of the sort of photos you're taking at work and show them.
I know this is apostasy, and I do lust after the 105... but for some reason at the near-tele range I'm conservative as hell. I found a screw mount adaptall so I can use the 90 macro and the 35-80 on ALL my cameras.
85 is definitely a must have IMHO ... if you can find one.
They can be pricey for Taks ... but well worth the $$$$$ I reckon.
found a few copies at a place ranging from 200-300$ depending on what condition they are in. Not that bad compared to other brands Or compared to AF lenses
Simon, if you ever want to unload that 85 to make room for something else, you know who to PM! I feel it's absence, especially since I'm probably going to forgo any new AF stuff for a while and expand my Super Tak collection a bit. Got a big gaping hole at 85mm in the Super Taks.
Also, speaking of that 105, please, someone buy this. Please.
Jay ... I didn't realise you missed this lens so much.
I thought you were selling all your Super Tak gear????
There was an 85mm f/1.9 for sale in the Marketplace ... was it was around the $350 mark I think ... it might be a few pages back still though.

I've been watching this thread for the past few weeks and i'm really impressed with the phots and information here. I've been using my Takumar's on my K10D for about a year and a half (when I got the K10D) and enjoy the screwmounts more than my AF lenses. I have a SMC Takumar 28mm 3.5, Super Takumar 55mm 1.8 and a Super Takumar 135mm 3.5 and like most here, I really want a 105! Here's some images taken with the 55mm.
Gentlemen, it is all fine and dandy to engage in and enjoy Takumar chit-chat, but let us try to also throw in an image with our posts.
Simon, the current version of the printer I use currently sells for around $200. Mine is an all-in-one printer/scanner/copier (Canon MP600) and does a very acceptable job for A4 images.
Won a Super Tak 85mm 1.9 on ebay finally, good price of $230. can't wait to get it and post some photos. Hope the condition is great like it states. It will be my first Tak
