You sure are lucky to have such great places to take pictures MikeCash.
Would you believe I've lived less than an hour from that river scene for close to 20 years and never knew it was there? The city I live in is on the bleeding edge of the Kanto Plain, with most of the town and everything south being almost as flat as a table, and with everything north being mountains. Seriously, I'm 15 minutes driving time from being in them.
The past couple of days I've been using Google Maps to zoom in and hunt for interesting places back in the hills and then driving around looking for them. I generally stumble across other things while I'm at it. I've had so much peace and relaxation out of wandering the narrow twisting roads up there that I'm seriously considering getting a motorcycle so I can have even more fun and get into even more places.
It's a great change of pace, since I spend the vast majority of my time looking at what Japan has become, which is a vast ocean of concrete concrete concrete.
Mike, the last 3 shots you have posted are really a change from what we usually see from you. I really like them all with the last one being my favorite. That last one just has a great feel to it for me. How nice for you to find a place like this so close to where you are.
Damn, these are good PHOTOS, and not just sharpness n contrast advertisements. Really fantastic work, folks.
Here's what arrived last week. I haven't been able to mount the S-M-C on the Spottie SP1000, though it mounts on the ST605 Fuji fine. I'm not sure what it is, it simply refuses that last third or half of a turn. Can't make it out on this pic either.
So here's lens porn to leaven the excellence of Takumar Photography
WOW ... this thread has taken off since I was last in.
MIKE: I have a fairly decent HP that scans nicely and prints quite nice as well ... but I want to actually take my images to a place that will have better quality paper and higher quality printers ... and print some of images out so that it will be come up nice framed.
I have printed a lot off at home for family ... and they have been impressed with just that ... but ME ... I want something a LOT better.
Also nice explanation on the Auto/manual ... couldn't have said it better myself.
Fritz/Fred: That bokeh on the 85/1.9 is dreamy indeed ... one reason why i Love that lens.
I have a lot more images to upload ... i was shooting my niece on her brand new trampoline with my 105mm and 85mm ... so it will be time to upload tonight and show what stunning lenses these are.

OK ... I have finally got to the last page ... and these are amazing.
Mike ... it's nice to get out of the rat-race and change pace ... that 35mm looks to be a sweet lens (I need to get my copy off AML here in Sydney).
Figmental ... that 55mm is a very nice lens as well ... I am hoping to get my hands on a copy soon myself ... and if it produces anything like what you have shot there ... well I'll be impressed.

Nesster, the problem with mounting the lens is almost certainly related to the aperture linkage bumping up against something. By the way, have you ever looked at how they solved the open-aperture metering problem in the Spotmatic F and other compatible Spotmatics? It is pure genius.
I definitely had a blast getting out in the unpopulated woods and visiting old temples nestled back in the mountains. I'm really looking forward to doing it again next weekend. And that 35/3.5 is a far better lens than I had hoped it would be, despite having seen some excellent examples from it here and there on the net.
This shot was taken after the main road petered out and turned into a forestry road. I went 4km up up up into the mountains, to the point that I was actually looking down on some low-lying clouds on the next mountain over. There was nobody and nothing up there. I had to dodge some fallen rocks in the road to even get up that far. The sign cautions people to guard against forest fires.

Oh jeez, Mike, now I have to get me one
Super Takumar 50 1.4 + 12mm tube + 2x extender + K100D in that order:
This one's with the full set of extension tubes on the Takumar 50/1.4... I was just hovering so the chin's out of focus
