Spent the weekend in Ottawa for Canadian Thanksgiving. The colours there and in the Gatineau's in Quebec were astounding. Like shooting fish in a barrel. Here are a few, more to come once I finish processing them all

Here's one from today. There is a lot of symbolism in this shot if you look for it.

Live giving water in a cemetary ????

Nice shot ... love the selective desaturation ... or whatever it is called.

Question please for those of you that have the 55mm f/1.8. I have been reading this particular thread from the beginning (truly great photos), and I have decided to pick up a couple of Takumars and see what I can do with them (I have a K100D). I am looking at a couple of SMC Takumar 55mm 1.8's on ebay, and I am trying to determine what is a good ball park price. I fully understand that the value of any lens is what I am willing to pay for it, and I am able to and willing to pay a fair market value, but I obviously don't want to pay a lot more than necessary. I went through the marketplace for a couple of months to see if anything was there, and only saw 1 that had been sold and it went for US $32. This seems to be a very fair price, but I have nothing really to base that on. I would appreciate any comments you might have.

Tom, consider also that you often get a lower price if you buy the complete camera. Insane, but it works that way.

I paid $10 for an Auto Tak 55/1.8 at a camera show, and $40 for a SMC 55/1.8 attached to a beautiful ESII untested, but with a non-working meter. Some day I'll get the ESII repaired.

Another with my 135mm 3.5. Really enjoying it, especially for photographs of people who are far enough away that they don't realize what I'm doing

Thanks for the reply. I've noticed the "package" deals, but haven't bid on any of them. The lens that I am bidding on now looks to be a really clean one. It started out at $4.99, and is now at $16.01. After I made the initial bid of $4.99, it sat there for 4-5 days before someone else bumped it up by .50 cents. I bumped by .50 and s/he immediately did the same. Finally dawned on me that s/he was using the automatic deal with .50 cent increments. DOH! Can you tell I haven't spent a lot of time on ebay? I am high bid at the moment, and it closes at 8:00 pm tonight. Funny thing about this particular lens is the seller lives in a town about 4 miles from where I live. If I win it, I could just meet them and give them cash -- saves $6.50 in postage.

S-M-C Takumar 200/4. I got a nice, almost unused copy with just a dint in the filter thread (I've got a clip on hood, so that is not a problem). Cost me £12, which is unbelieveablely low. Today was overcast, so I had to bump up the ISO and shoot at wide apertures.

The only disappointment is the closest focus distance at 2.5m. That is far too far to take photos of flowers. But with a 35mm tube I took these:

Again, excuse the high ISO and the rather uninteresting subjects.

The colours are nice and even wide open, the detail is there. Bokeh is interesting. In these examples it looks quite nice, but in others, where the OOF items are closer, the bokeh can be more harsh. It's something I'll have to watch out for.

I also noticed that even though I am using a hood (and this lens is S-M-C) some of the pictures had flare. I am not sure where it came from, so again, I'll have to be careful when using this lens.

But I have to admit, there is something nice about handling a S-M-C Tak.

My coworker spotted some grasshoppers humping and wanted photos of them. I informed her that I had neglected to bring any macro equipment with me to work this week. Then I recalled that I did have the next best thing.....a K20D and the SMC Takumar 55/1.8
