I tried out a Bower 2X Teleconverter. The idea was to get more range with my 50 and 70mm and sell my "plastic-tube"-->
Tamron 70-300mm f/4-5.6
After some test shots and reviewing the pros and cons, I kept the Tamron and sold my teleconverter a few days later.
If you need more range and are on a budget, I recommend you try it out. It costs maybe twice as much as a cheap ebay telekonverter, but you'll have ten times more fun with the Tamron.
Tamron 70-300mm is best below 200mm with the aperture a few f-stops higher. It's NOT great, but good enough for me.
70-133mm - f/4.0
133-220mm - f/4.5
220-300mm - f/5.6
