As you already know Nikon also made some fine optics over the years. I found that I can use my Nikkor pre AI lens collection on my Pentax in manual as well as AV modes. I prefer AV, since it automatically sets the shutter speed and allows for exposure compensation. A picture is worth more then a thousand words, so here are a few shots.
morfic,
My favorite is the 35mm F2.0 for film. It makes a nice low light normal lens on APS-C format. The 55mm micro is awsome when closeups are needed as well a as general shooting.

In case you're wondering what you are seeing there, that's Indian breath freshener. The green things that look like cucumbers are actually sugar-coated fennel seeds. Quite small!
Back in the day I used to shoot a Nikon F2 with a 105mm f2.5. I loved that lens, and if I still had it around I'd sure like to try in on my K20D. Maybe it's a good thing, though. I've already got two 105s and I really don't need another.

Hi Dave,
This raises two questions:
1) Is the silver ring an adapter? If so can you give details?
2) If I was to by a Nikkor lens, what should I look for, or rather, what Nikkor lenses should I avoid?
Please tell us more... Where did you get the adapter and how does it work? The only adapter I've seen is this one that uses a 'correctional lens'... Are you using a 'correctional lens'?
I'd really like to use my Nikon 17-35 ED on my K10d if it's possible??
Some, if not all, old (Pre-AI) Nikkor lenses attach to the K mount, albeit upside-down (i.e., the markings on the aperture ring are on the bottom). And since the Nikon register distance is a tiny bit longer, the lens mounts oh-so-slightly closer to the sensor on Pentax, so there's no loss of infinity focus.
Do the electronics work too, or just manually? There is an interesting nikkor 70-300 but it has no aperture ring. Would that be a problem with a k200d?

I've tried mounting modern F-mount lenses to my Pentax with very limited success.
It's obvious the electronics wouldn't work because lens communication protocols are entirely different, mechanical couplings are different and the position of the electronic contacts is entirely different.
Nikon 50mm f/1.8 & Tokina 12-24 f/4 do not lock into place on a K-mount body. You can only press it against the lens mount and keep it like that.
