DA* 50-135 macros with extension tube?

I find myself in a lens buying quandary

And was wondering, has anyone used this DA* with extension tubes for macro ? If so, is there a best focal length (would like to hear that 135 is best )

Basically I need to get a longer macro than my DA35 for bugs and butterflies but funds are limited (arent they always). In UK right now a Pentax 100mm macro and DA*50-135 can be had for similar prices. Admittedly a Tamron 90 is cheaper but still not as flexible as the DA*, and I prefer to stick with Pentax glass

so one thought was to get a DA* 50-135 as it is most definitely the more useable/adaptable lens for me, to add to the two primes I currently use

But at about 1:6 reproduction it sure will suck for macro needs - a few quid will get me some Kenro auto extension tubes . . . so the 1:2 I will use is within easy reach

Thought so, just had to confirm it, the zoom I was using for focusing, has a better throw than the main focussing ring, which I used for more critical focussing. That was with all three extension tubes on.

Further experimenting just using one ring at a time, zoom is more useful the smaller the tubes, the more tubes you put on, the less of a zoom range there is.

The obvious answer is to buy both lenses! But I would definately go for the 50-135 first, as for me it is far more useful and versatile.

One shot taken with the 50-135 & extension tubes before I had much experience!
