28mm Super Takumar M42

I just read through the reviews on the M42, 28mm Takumar Wide Angle Primes.

Seems I may have a variant not mentioned there.

My lens is a 3.5/28 Super Takumar. It has the 58 mm filter ring of the early version, but unlike the early version which went to f22 on the aperture,(as described in the reviews in the M42 forums) mine only goes to f16, which according to the review description, was only found on the later 49mm variant.

Can anyone else out there help me identify what version I have?

Me thinks I have solved this one.

According to the Asahi Optical Historical Club (AOHC) Website, there was a production run of
28 mm 3.5 f16 lenses with 58 mm filter rings, made between 1965 and 1966.

These were sold under the "Honeywell Pentax" brand with same on the front caps.

The same website states that the f22 version of the same lens was made between 1961 and 1964.

They were sold with Asahi Pentax front caps.

Apart from the aperture differences (and the marketing names) the 2 lenses were identical.

The 49mm filter ring version commenced production on 1967.

So, it would be safe to say that there was a 4th version of this lens made.

I may be reading the chart wrong, but are you sure about the "production run numbers" you mention? These numbers look like part numbers to me.

Here's my version of the 28mm ... but I am pretty sure it is as 49mm filter thread on it (like most of my Super Tak lenses)

Michelina 2-- You are right. It's the part no. I had forgotten about it being on the auto/manual switch until Geoff Fox reminded me (thanks Geoff) I have alos edited my posts to reflect that info.
Interestingly, I have 2 "Honeywell-Pentax" M42 lenses and neither actually has the part number stamped on the switch. All my "Asahi Pentax" badged lenses do.

Interestingly, neither of these two Super-Takumars have the part number on the A/M switch. The 55/1.8 has the aperture ring in the opposite direction to the SMC Takumar 55/1.8 I also have, so I guess this is what the AOHC calls "Early type. The diaphragm ring stops down counterclockwise".

It's also interesting that both are older than me!
