the closest thing I had to a macro lens for a while....... this lens simply obliterates every other kit lens I've tried.

Oh yes, the 18-55... My favorite lens. And the only one I have...
Here's one of my latest favorites, a bit of cropping, WB is off (deliberately), some contrast added:

Here are a couple of my first few photos with my k100ds and the mk1 kit lens.

(yes...I know there is a dust speck)

After seeing these pictures here, I may need to dust it off and try her out now that I (kind of) know what I am doing.

I rarely use the kit lens because I prefer primes. But, it is an excellent lens - I should use it more! I guess I don't HAVE to spin the zoom to use it.

Here is one I took a year ago at Maramec Springs park near St. James, MO, at 18mm. It makes an excellent wide-angle lens.

K100D Super, Pentax DA 18-55 (version 1)

Nice shot! Yeah, I often use mine as a "DA18/3.5", since I too generally prefer primes, but my shortest is 28mm.

Thanks Marc.

Maybe I should do some "hillbilly engineering" and put some duct tape on the zoom ring and just call it an 18mm f3.5.

Here is another from the same outing (October 2008), taken at 18mm with K100DS.

Nice shots Joe, I have been there MANY MANY times. Have taken hundreds of photos there with my old Ricoh KR-5. And took my K110D last time, but used a 28-200 Sigma that I bought from the marketplace here, so can't post em in this thread. Here is a link to a set I made on Flickr from that trip. These were all taken on the river just upstream from the spring... http://www.flickr.com/photos/7714582...170041/detail/
