On new year's eve, I decided that for me, this year's resolution would be to loose weight. In order to motivate myself, I decided to set myself an easy to remember objective: If I can get down to 200 pounds, I buy myself a DA*200. It's that easy! I'am getting there real fast and I started wondering if my resolution is a good one. Is 200 right for me? I am talking about the lens here...
I already have a 50-135 (fortunately because I don't want to go down to 135 pounds) that I use for indoor sport events (gymnastic) and outdoor pictures of the kids. I want to use my my next lens for outdoor sport events, animals and landscape photography. Now, my questions to you fellow pentaxians are the following:
1-would the DA*300 be a better alternative (and no I don't plan to weight 300 pounds to purchase it)?
2-For those of you who own the DA*200, what do you use it for specifically?
Thanks in advance for your advices and recipes... I am getting tired of eating the same tasteless food day after day.

Ah, that was the question, that sprung to my mind immediately... Anyway, I would go for the 300 for sports anytime. You will have a hole between the 135mm end of your zoom and the 300mm, but I would think, that you would miss the longer fl all the time. But I love long tele lenses, so this might be prejudiced...
I started at 230. If I look at it the other way around, I could assume that I buy 10mm for every pound I loose. Thus, 30 pounds is equal to 300mm. I just love math!
Seriously, what type of photography is the DA200 appropriate for?

With f/2.8 available at 200mm, you can create some beautiful images - "far"
portraits of people, nice flora shots, even some birding/deer/bugs with nice
deep bokeh. It's good for youth sports also.
The DA* 200 is sharp enough wide open that you could shoot at f/2.8 all day
long and have nothing but keepers. The DOF will be shallower at close-range
subjects, but still more than usable.
I bought a Tamron 70-200 2.8, and I've noticed that most of the shots I take
with it - by a wide margin - are at 200mm. makes me wonder if I should have
bought the DA* 200 2.8 instead.
So, look forward to taking shots like this, but maybe even with better IQ
than the Tammy can muster:

Instead, get down to 90 kg (198.4 lb). Makes sense, eh?
Then get yourself a Voigtlander 90/3.5 APO-Lanthar.
Maybe you should post your progress here - that would be good motivation as well!
Or: maybe take the money you saved up for the DA* 200 and hire a personal trainer right now!

Photography is a great excuse for me to get out and walk. Because I pay more attention to my surroundings when I walk, hence more chances to take photos.
Walking:
Your Total Calorie Burn/Mile =.53 x your weight
Your Net* Calorie Burn/Mile =.30 x your weight
*Total cal. burned minus basal metabolism.
You save gas/tread more lightly/lose weight/take more photographs just by walking more!
most pics I take these days are within 1 mile from my apartment.
p.s.I wonder if carrying a heavy lens help you lose more (weight)
