Is the super takumar 135mm F/2.5 the same lens optically speaking?
It is from the m42 era.
two photo of the lens I am talking about:

I am aware that there is a cheap takumar 135/2.5 that is just so so.. But it is a recent lens, not from the m42 era.

thank for helping

I have to say that this lens is one of my favorites as well. While I don't have anything to compare with some of Starscream's shots, the character in those faces is, in my experience, more easily achieved with this lens. It has a way of revealing detail in a portrait that is unique. It also produces crisp colors which I don't see in zooms which are more common in this length these days.

This puppy does weigh about as much as some fairly good zooms, though.

This shot is a good example of the snappy color from this Tak in fairly flat lighting. This was taken in a large gym, and the lighting was bounced from a couple of Vivitar 283s. It is even better in the version that was not reduced.

Unfortunately, no. The Super-Takumar is not the same. The later Super-Multi-Coated Takumar 1:2.5/135 was sold in two versions. The first version was the same as the Super-Takumar; the last version has 6 elements in 6 groups like the SMC Pentax 1:2.5/135. If you've found one, let the seller check the part number engraved in the Auto/Manual switch of the S-M-C Takumar. If this number si 43812, then it is the right version.
