I want Pentax FAST wide angle primes.

I want them. At least f/2 and at least 28mm -- down to 15mm. Why doesn't Pentax make them?

because ultrafast primes don't exist under 20mm
to elaborate, they'd be too expensive, too heavy, too big, etc. and no one would buy it. not in pentax's interests right now to go for extremely low volume lenses.
the closest you'll get is the Canon 24mm 1.4 or the Leica 21 and 24 1.4's

I'd be happy with f2.8 if I could get a 12mm prime. The current 14mm is too close to my DA*16-50. I was hopeing Pentax would come out with their version of the Tokina 11-16 f2.8 which is very highly rated and was based on the 12-24 design ...no luck though.

However, I suspect better chance of a f2.8 ultra wide zoom than a prime any faster than that.

Closest thing that Pentax has to that would probably be the FA 31mm f/1.8 Ltd on film.

Also my question, ... Why? For a great majority, wide angle lenses are used for landscape and architecture where max depth of field is usually desirable and a fast WA such as that mentioned would not be sharpest between f8-f16 but more around f4-f5.6.

Sigma 24mm f1.8 and 20mm f1.8 are very capable. Pentax cannot really compete against these two sigma primes anyway.

Because Pentax is an APS-C system. An unlike the endless debate, I think they'll stay that way for some time to come.

Asking for a fast Pentax (20mm) 30mm equivalent in 35mm is not something you use for landscapes and architecture. It's just a fast moderate wide angle for general photography that can benefit from speed and DOF.

I want a FF dslr to slap my wide angle primes on. My A28/2.8 is great on film, and using the Kiron 28/2 is much fun on trix @ 1600.

Well, I could use one in the range between 21-35 with f1.4 for portraits and street photography...

A DA 23/1.4 ltd would be the ultimate lens for me (equivelant to 35/1.4 for film)....

Now that is a lens that everyone would dream of for their APS-C bodies...

Actually I would sell my DA35/2.8 Macro Ltd and maybe also my MX with the M50/1.4 to get that lens....

I feel even ready to quit smoking too for that lens

Pentax is stressing portability in its DA primes right now--you can have portable and relatively slow or you can have the DA 14 f/2.8 or one of the Sigmas!

Pentax FA 20mm F2.8, one of my favorite lenses, but not cheap. Am at work so I don't have access to any samples. If I remember I'll add some tonight. I must admit that 3 years ago I would have thought F2.8 as fast. I've either gotten more sophisticated, or I'm jaded.

NaCl(nothing over 2.0 is fast anymore)H2O

I recently sold all my zooms to get 3 primes. 300* F, 50 FA, and a 28mm FA.

I wish I had your lens, but they don't come up for sale often.
